Coming from higher end sports cars and seeing how to elevate the 86 platform to be more classy...these door guards reminds me of the 80s and 90s. Those things can help you in some instances, but in many others it's worthless. These cars are low...same heights as the Z4s... I've had my door keyed, another BMW's front bumper swipe the side, and some door dings...none of that will help with the door guards you put on.

The only thing I can see these door guards help you in the small percentage times another car with similar height swing their door and doesn't slam hard enough to dent the whole door and just leave the door ding. I see it very ineffective and if you look at any high end modern car they haven't done such things in years...that's what paintless dent repair is for.

I do apologize if my response isn't so positive...and I refrain from saying what I think because I try to be respectful... just look at nice sports cars, stingray, cayman, z4, etc...do you see such things on those cars.... it ruins the lines of the car. I understand the new car syndrome...I baby my cars too.... but these side molding for door ding is like factory alarms on cars... pointless and not effective... they just make noise, people ignore the noise and it's just aggravating.

I see these side moldings like I would see any modern car with parking whiskers. Thank you sharing... since you posted I hope you accept my comments and if they are offensive...I apologize.

It's already prevented one door ding for me, so I respectfully disagree. If you put them in the right place it will prevent door dings. I should know, I've had 3 dings before putting these on and these covered up all 3. Had I had these from the start, it would have prevented all of them.

I noticed in your picture that you have front mud guards. Did you have to remove your rear mud guards for the rear skirts or was it a cosmetic choice?

the rear mud guards aren't compatible with the rear skirts, so it was one or the other. the rear skirts do provide a bit of protection, so i was okay with replacing the mud guards with them.

Thanks for the info. I really wanted to buy a full carbon front/side/rear kit but then I'd have to remove the mud guards.

For those not wanting to stick something permanent on the car, I saw these on a car the other day. They're called Door Shox

Did you ever buy these from Doorshox?
