What gaskets are you using? Did you reuse the stock gaskets? Most of the time when someone says they have a leak, they reuse the stock gaskets which we have found fail. You should upgrade the to the full metal gasket. Either the ones from AVO, or the turbo forester. We are running the new gasket kit with studs that AVO just released on two vehicle and there has not been any problems

I would suggest @AVOturboworld to either include these better gaskets with their kits or specifically say they are needed, as I bought and tested the better gaskets by myself trying to find a metal gasket to use after resurfacing the manifold flanges, not by recommendation from AVO or anyone.

The AVO instructions give no direction about replacing gaskets and first logical choice to anyone who does not know the Forester gaskets fit will be to replace them with BRZ OEM ones which IMHO are garbage.

I just added them to the OP of this thread.

I immediately regretted not buying exhaust manifold gaskets when I first started my car after the install. I am not sure why the kit doesn't come with the gaskets. It came with a gasket for the overpipe connection. My reasoning for not purchasing it was because if they provided the overpipe gasket and not the exhaust gasket, it doesn't need it! Dumb assumption on my part.

PROTIP: BUY THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD GASKETS!

I plan on buying the gaskets and installing it sometime later this week. I'm hoping the exhaust manifold and turbo drops down enough to fit in the gasket so I don't have to completely remove the lines again.

yes i understand that. The upgraded pcv is not installed to replace it, unless they have released a newer version. The one i received is installed in line with the factory one, in order to limit boost from pressurizing the crankcase, but it does "replace" the factory one, its just supplemental.

talk with your provider about the license. the company should provide you with information about applying your license and such.

To anyone reusing the factory gaskets and such:

To ensure a "possibly" leak free operation, apply a gasket material, similar to:

Permatex® Ultra Copper® Maximum Temperature RTV Silicone Gasket Maker

to the oem gasket, then install, allow to set after torquing everything down. Ensure you apply loctite to your nuts also, and you "should" be good to go.

It's been working for me since i finished my AVO kit reinstall, will update if things start leaking or loosening.

I've been using the GrimSpeed gaskets (similar to the STi/Forester gaskets). No leaks so far (been running about a month). They have a nice beefy fire ring that seems to seal well.

I have the breather tank installed. I had the same issue. The threaded portion of the block fitting was not threaded correctly. I had to get a new one from AVO. Be carefull. You do not want to force the one you got on if its not threading in there correctly. Only took about 4 months for me to get a replacement fitting.

If it looks kind of like the beginning threads are very "small"? is probably not threaded correctly. Basically mine looked like it was all stripped out. But was new, and looked freshly coated. I will dig up some pics that i took and post tomorrow.

As far as the leak.....as pretty much everyone states, get new gaskets. I had the same problem, had to put on forrester gaskets.

The first one is the upgraded PCV valve and the second will replace the factory PCV in the block. I just had a look at it and I see some very small threads at the beginning, I think you kinda see it in the pic.

Thanks!

Let me know how you go about fixing the leak. I think I might still have the slightest leak but at this point I'm not doing anything but machining it if it doesn't go away.
