some idiot at my job didn't care about my baby parked REALLY CLOSE to me... now my baby has a vertical ding on the side the size of a dime.

it's not noticeable at first glance especially if you didn't know it existed but knowing it's there bugs the crap out of me.

i already tried the blowdryer/canned air technique and it didn't work.

a body shop was asking for $230 and won't guarantee it. (ridiculous price)

any tips?
some jerk use their fist and "hammer" my roof rail (driver side) leave a dent about a fist size, I may need the same service.

that sucks. i got a vertical door ding as well. i'm going to put side door molding on my BRZ. it may not prevent all door dings, but it's going to prevent some of them. while i'm not a fan of side molding, door dings bother me more than side molding. haven't seen anyone do that yet (for obvious aesthetic reasons), so i'll be the guinea pig.

allright - as mentioned on the first page, i decided to try some door side molding in an attempt to protect the sides from dings. granted, the other car's door has to match up at a certain height for the molding to be effective, so it's not a 100% solution. also, the molding is subject to damage, so i might 'protect the protection' with some xpel paint protection film (i've been buying that stuff to protect different areas like the kick panels).

on to the side molding - i bought it from sportwing.com.

they offer colour-matched molding for the BRZ http://sportwing.com/Subaru-BRZ-Body...013-FE-FRS-BRZ

and FR-S: http://sportwing.com/Scion-FR-S-Body...013-FE-FRS-BRZ

the moldings are made from ABS and are painted to order. took about two weeks from when i ordered the set until i received them. colour match with my DGM BRZ was perfect.

now, i really hemmed and hawed about adding 'sedan' door molding to my BRZ - i don't see any modern sports cars with molding. as i mentioned before, i hate door dings even more. plus, the FR-S/BRZ door panels are so thin that they dent very easily.

the set came very well protected with pretty good installation instructions. 3M adhesive tape is already applied to the backs of the moldings, of which there are two pieces per side - the long one on the door and the short one right behind it.

they're more subtle than i thought they'd be; since they're colour matched and quite low profile. if subaru or scion offered OEM side molding, it'd probably look like this. less garish than the modellista chrome side molding and much, much cheaper:
http://japanese-culture.ocnk.net/product/692

they follow the lines of the kick panel below, and also compliment the BRZ side vent garnish quite well, IMHO.
