Meaty Tire Thread

I have been reading a lot and wondering if anyone knows if a 18x9.5 +40 will fit up front with a 255/35? I just have lowering springs and Bilstein shocks. Spent most of the night reading up on this and found some that say they will fit and others say I have to have coil overs to make this work. Looking for a solid answer on this.

It will be close. This is the best picture I have to give you an idea of what an 18x9.5 +40 wheel looks like in the front:





It all depends on how the tire ends up sitting on the wheel.

^ Also depends on how you're achieving camber. If it's via camber bolts in the strut / knuckle mounting point, then your wheels will be closer to the strut. If it's via adjustable top hat, you maintain more clearance.

I really don't see 255/35/18 on 18x9.5 +40 fitting well with stock struts.

I think I might just take the safe road and go with 245/35 all the way around or go with the 245/35 in the front and 255/35 in the rear. From reading most are saying not to go with a staggered setup so that leaves 245/35 all the way around. Which from what I have gathered will work without any problems with just lowering springs someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I've done it with two different tires and 16" rims and it seems to go fine.

That is pretty close what size tire are you running? I have the Bilstein B8's struts and not the stock ones and will be using Swift Spec R springs.

My biggest issue is the car is the car isn't at the house and don't have a way to check before it goes to get them put on. So trying to figure everything out without having the car in hand which is a PITA and stupid but not much of a choice.

Your other option would be run the 255 and if it is too close, then go with a 5 mm spacer.

better to have a 245-255 in a great tire (mpps/zII/RE11/rivals..etc) thant a 265-285 in a not so good tire.

Sticky tire also falls in to play with the suspension, alignment and so on when you're on the quest for more traction.. Reason I would be getting 265s is simply because the tires I would be getting are offered in 245/40/18 or 265/40/18 and I definitely would not step down to a 245. The more rubber on the ground the better it will help if you're comparing the same suspension setup with the same type of tire.. And if I were to build my engine, I probably wouldn't stop until I was 650+..

This may only register 4.0 on the meaty Richter Scale but it's my meaty. Kosei K4R 17x8 with 245/40/17 Continental ExtremeContact DWs. Also lowered an inch with Bilstein B14s.
