I think that is the million dollar question. It would be interesting to know if anyone with a newer twin that had the latest ECU calibration has experienced DI failures. To the best of my knowledge there has not been.

This would be great news for all if this issue can be put to rest.

I have driven my car pretty aggressively and have had no issues. Runs like a top.

It looks like the calibration code listed in the SA Bulletin is ZA1JA01G. Is that the letter you meant?

I'm going to make an appt today for my 7500 mi service and find out if they I have the reflash. That will definitely put my mind at ease about driving the car hard again!

Good call. The last letter of the reflash is "G" not "C". Basically, this tells us nothing...

All I know is that Toyota's silence is really pissing me off to the point where I'm starting to feel like i don't want this car anymore.

It tells you a lot. The last letter is region. G is EU (and Africa by the looks of it). The regions/codes are on the EcuTek website.

This.

Precisely the reason I have not bought an FRS.

"retard ignition timing above 5200 rpm during acceleration" What will this adjustment do to performance? Will it be noticeable above 5200? I'm to crystal clear on ignition timing so forgive me.....

I am not really sure this is something to really worry about for most people. I think some people have blown the issue out of proportion.

But that is just me.

Every car has it's issues, that typically get blown out of proportion on car forums.

No, this only affects transients, or when your throttle is moving. So when you first lift off the gas and when you first stomp on it again, these tables will be in effect for literally tenths of a second at most. I would be very impressed if anybody could prove a performance difference that couldn't be negated by which direction the wind was blowing.

If you're on a track you'll prefer the added insurance that you won't be blowing a motor. Most track guys would prefer to have a car with -5% horsepower if it meant bulletproof reliability and nothing to worry about.

If you're worried about getting beat by a minivan due to this change in the ECU... well not to beat a dead horse but you probably got the wrong car.

So is ZA1JA01C actually an update that includes the transient timing changes? Was the original version ZA1JA00C?

The bulletin is worded pretty specifically, stating the WOT ON->OFF->ON within 0.6 seconds, while shifting. So:
  1. Does this include riding the limiter?
  2. Would Flat-Foot shifting avoid this?
  3. If you're WOT >5200 RPM (let's say 6000), lift briefly and go WOT again... does this induce the problem?

So, are you saying you believe this IS the SA ECU reflash simply released in our region?
