Yea, I always used painter's tape.

Clear bra is the only solution. And harp all you want about the car's paint quality, but with a car this low to the ground it's an inescapable fact that you will get chips on the front. If you can afford a $25k+ brand new car, then you can afford a $600-800 clear bra to protect your investment. Trust me it's worth it.

Ditto on not following too closely...if you can't see the tires of the car in front of you then you're too close. Don't ride next to trucks, SUVs, tractor trailers that can kick stuff off to the side. If you're not good with touch up, find a friend with an older car who will let you practice on his chips, once you get the hang of it they're easier to blend.

I made an incredible discovery this morning. I got down and closely examined the front of my car. With over 11,000 miles I don't have a single stone chip in the front of my FR-S. So much for all the comments about the poor paint quality going on the twins. The Miata I traded in that had 38,000 miles on it looked like it had been hit by double barrel bird shot.

I'm 500 miles in and no chips. Thinking about getting protection though so I stop worrying about it. I literally check each time I get off highway driving..lolz

If you just want the bumper it is like $200. My local shop offered to do the bumper and mirrors for $200.

My local scion shops charge 600 for front bumper and 395 for good fenders and mirrors. Where is everyone going to get cheaper rates?
