Because I can appreciate this car in its whole, which requires an understanding of its shortcomings as well.

ok whatever floats your boat, but don't be surprised if not everyone sees 150 lb/ft of torque as a shortcoming the same way you do. yes in an ideal world i would like more torque, hp, 500lbs lighter weight and a $50 msrp. but it ain't gonna happen, and i for one am gonna at least test drive the car before i complain about a weak low end/mid range.

My spec.B gets up and goes, and this will be quicker (post-launch). I don't think I'm going to be worrying too much about the available power.

That's the price of high revs, fixed cam profile. I'm happy about it, because the mpgs should be better :P
the drop isnt that bad, and that drop a "boxer thing", most 4 banger boxers have the dip at 3000 rpms due to header design and is, that is the NA boxer engines

its been explained in another thread... :/

Compromises are made into every car but for some people it isn't a compromise. To each his own. Every car I wanted to own had a compromise or two but I can still appreciate all of them.

370Z- No back seats
GC 3.8 Track -250 lbs to heavy at 3,472 lbs(I wish it was 3200 lbs)
S2K- No back seats and high revving is where the real power lies
FRS- ? TBD.
Aventador - Too expensive..
M3 - maintenance sucks and weight is 250 lbs to heavy

I could go on but I love all those cars and more.

I agree. The Boss is largely too powerful and too grippy on the street which is why I bought it for track events. While I will probably do a few errant HPDEs with the BRZ, I look forward to a small, pleasant car for daily driving and cruising.

lol, reread my post, I said below 3000. The dip on this engine is at ~4000, because of the intake manifold probably. Below 3000 the torque is shitty because the cam is way too big for good VE.

yeah i looked at it again my bad but yeah below 3000 sucks just cause its 4 cylinder, plain and simple, a small cam would result in a poor top end :/ and i like good top ends on my engines

My 8 has 232HP / 159ft-lbs and it's top speed is speced @148mph. It would take the salt flats and a qtr tank of gas to get going that fast lol. I was't using any real numbers, just showing how a 350HP car can pass another lower HP car at higher speed becuase of available HP.

However you slice it, lower p/w ratio cars hit the drag wall faster than those with excess HP to use. And that typically means lower useable top end.

daily driving. It would be nice not to wind it out to 6000 rpm to feel like I'm in a sports car. A very small percentage of these cars will actually see time on the track so any justification that the car will have all the power it needs on the track is bs.

+1. I may still buy one after I drive it, but I know right now I would have a deposit down already if it had 270 HP & 220 ft-lb.

230/190 or 250/200 would have this car on my driveway with a $1k markup.

You like peaky low end turbo torque? 230/190 can only come from a turbo that makes power early (aka chokes off high rpm), or a poorly tuned 2.7 ish liter which will feel barely faster.

I have a feeling picking up about 10-20hp shouldn't be too hard on this motor given how it just dies after 7000. More than that will take some work.

Ideally, if I had a good amount of cash to throw around I'd like to see a 9000rpm redline 2.0L, with extensive weight reduction so it has about 1hp/10lb, so people driving giant displacement cars can't laugh at it lol. I figure a variable intake should be able to improve the low end performance a little bit.

I'd be willing to pay $35k for a limited trim with the power figures I listed. Another reason I'm waiting...still think an sti version with the upcoming wrx engine is on the horizon.
