Like the OP did, I wish people would post the car they're coming from and why they think the interior is "cheap". They should also state whether this is their first new car and whether they overextended themselves to afford it.
People will say cars thousands of dollars cheaper have interior features yet those cars don't have R&D invested into their performance or design. If you want some shit hatchback over a sports car just because it has a fancy NAV unit then be my guest go buy it. If you're buying a twin because you want a performance car for economy price then you learn to sacrifice or build the interior (katzkins, coachworks, crutchfield, custom shops) progressively. Basically people just like to bitch or they come here to grouse after their clueless friends go for a ride and say "you don't have [insert performance-less interior OEM feature], my [insert name of ugly fwd econobox here] has them." It'd be different if said friend was allowed to drive the car and came to the same "my car is 'better' conclusion" *2 cents* |

For whatever reason I've never understood people whining about interiors. I never understood the "cheap plastic" complaints about the WRX. Every car has cheap plastic interior. When I look at an Acura vs a Honda, the Acura materials aren't any nicer, they're just different. In fact often worse - the same plastic but with fake wood grain or whatever and fake chrome trim. Impressive. I test drove a Focus ST and Genesis Coupe (and a Fusion but let's ignore that oddity). Aside from features, the materials in all of them are pretty equal. Really the only difference is in use. The BRZ storage space is pretty sad and the stock nav sucks. I don't like where the DC power source is because my phone charger doesn't fit with the cup holder in place, and the cup holder is pretty bad where it is. But the interior LOOKS pretty (other than the silver mass in front of the passenger). The seats, steering wheel, pedals and climate control are awesome. In the end I was pretty much already sold on the BRZ. I looked at the Focus out of due diligence, Genesis Coupe because it's awesome (but too heavy) and Fusion and a hand full of other sedans because I had an identity crisis. The BRZ is the most fun to drive and because it's a second car not much else mattered.

I had an 05 Civic EX Coupe, the interior on my BRZ Premium is way nicer. Only thing I don't like on the BRZ somebody already mentioned, no physical prev/next track buttons.

Interior isn't good enough for me but its more than compensated by the driving dynamics and the price here in Australia.
Besides, there are heaps of OEM and aftermarket options for dressing these gems up |
