Ordered mine yesterday. For anyone planning to track a forced induction car even on an occasional basis, this is the ideal solution IMHO.

So want this, cant wait to get my car back. Got a chance to see it on robi's car and man it looks stealthy and functional.

I did my first track day yesterday with the Robispec oil cooler. The car was reporting an ambient temperature of 85F during an afternoon session; during this 20 minute track time, these were the highest temps I saw:

Oil: 215F
Water: 195F

(I've probably done 75-100 track events since ~2002 so I do push the car somewhat hard.)

I was at THill in June with ambient temp 106F and stock radiator, OBDII read water temp max 195F unfortunately does not hv capability to read oil temp, but oil temp should around the same as your reading im guessing, i was expecting RobiSpec rad/oil cooler should run 10-15F lower than OEM?

Jeff,

I'd guess that your oil temps would be much higher than mine (of 215F). For example, with the stock radiator, I was driving up highway 84 into Livermore, CA with ambient temps in the mid 70s. Water temp remained in the 190s but oil shot up to the 230s. I saw oil high as 245F while driving in the hills of highway 58 towards Edwards Air Force base (it was in the upper 80s) in southern CA. Again, water temps didn't move a whole lot.

Others have reported oil temps of 260+ while on the track. For this reason, I got the Robispec unit before hitting the track with this car.

I'd recommend tapping into the OEM oil sensor over OBD and see what oil temps you are getting. This way, you can judge for yourself if you need an oil cooler.

I'm interested in this cooling kit as well, but a few AVO kit owners have noted that it doesn't quite fit..I think they even tried retrofitting. If it can be confirmed that it fits with an AVO kit I'm more than ready to spend my moneyz

I tried version one of the radiator and it didn't fit. I spoke to Robi about this version two and he says it fits, just need to make the brackets from the AC condenser to the radiator shorter. Haven't seen anyone actually try it on their car though..

Okay, this one is going to be out in left field somewhere, but here goes…

Looking over Craigslist for old VWs this morning, and running across some decent Karmann Ghias that just 'need a bit of love'…

Which got me to thinking about a project I have considered in the past; taking a Karmann Ghia, swapping in a 12A or 13B rotary and adding a 7" Camden supercharger…

The thing with such a swap is that one would need to add both a radiator & an oil cooler for the rotary to play nice…

So I thought to myself, "Hey Self, Robispec has that nifty radiator/oil cooler combo thingie…"

Just wondering about the feasibility of running oil lines back & forth the length of the chassis like would be needed, as the radiator/oil cooler would have to be mounted in the front compartment (displacing the spare tire)…

It would increase the amount of oil in the system though, bonus…!?! ;^p

Thoughts, car guys…?!?

Edited to add - The REAL crazy kicks in when I start thinking about the bodywork/structural engineering that would be needed to turn the Karmann Ghia into a gullwing door vehicle, a Frankenstein version of the classic 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing…!
