I hope @sw20kosh doesn't mind me adding to his thread.
From the San Francisco bay area, I drove down to Robispec's shop yesterday to get his radiator installed; it was also nice meeting Robi and a couple of other FRS/BRZ owners. While driving south, I was seeing cruising oil temps in the 220s (F) that would peak to 245F when driving uphill. The ambient temps were in the 85-90F range. On the way home after the install, it was initially a bit warmer (probably 95-100F) and I was seeing cruising oil temps in the 205F range with a peak of 215F while accelerating uphill in fourth gear. As I got closer to home, and the ambient temps were down to the 70s, my oil temps were down to the 195F range. Coolant temps barely ever moved. This is a quality product that simply works and I'm very happy that Robi has this option for us; I drove 13-14 hours yesterday for it.

The quality of his cooler is incredible, and extremely stealth. The only way I can tell that something is different, is the sandwich plate beneath the oil filter. Huge props to Robi (and Junior) for such a great product. |

What about the occasional oil-change?
wouldn't you need to drain the radiator seperately because the oil needs to flow up into the sandwichplate and therfore won't drain through the oil pan? |

Really? it doesn't block off the airflow for the radiator?

This would be the same for any of the oil coolers at the moment. The quantity of oil in the cooler would likely be minimal, so it would just mix with the new stuff at a low dilution. Valid concern though, hadn't thought of it before.

I remove the fill line at the take off plate cap the fitting and gently apply air to the fill line this pushes most of the o out of the cooler.
Your other option is to remove the alum pan. Remove the return line at the take off plate and just lower the hose into your drain pan. This will gravity drain the cooler. |
