One of the best from the 1960's .
Alfa Romeo...2 and 2.6 liter V8 , 90 degree design with double overhead cams for each cylinder bank, when bored out to 2.6 liters, with Spica mechanical fuel injection and twin electronic ignition, the Montreal’s engine was good for 230 hp at 6,500 rpm. At 1.25 horsepower per cubic inch it had to have been one of the highest specific output street.
The 2 liter V8 as used in racing had a 10,000 rpm red line and made closer to 300 hp.

Everyone has something they do well and the Italians have a style sense that rarely misses the mark. Reliability? Screw that, but their stuff is so pretty you almost don't care.

Have the Italians design it, but have the Germans build it.

I'm sorry this doesn't belong in thread but, as much as I love some italian cars, lets be honest...

I don't know if anyone said it yet, but what about the gm quad 4. 2.4 liter twin cam. Not the mots powerful 4 banger, but it was tough and wanted to go.

It came and went too quickly. Everything I've heard about it makes it sound pretty good. Not sure why it didn't last.

It looks good in a hot rod too.

Because 169hp 2.0L it's not in the same engineering league as 190hp toyota/yamaha 1.8L 2ZZ-GE or any of those other examples.

Car and Driver hails the F20C not only as the best 2-liter, but #1 best naturally aspirated engine *of all time*.
http://m.caranddriver.com/flipbook/t...of-all-time#25

However, they got some facts wrong in the write-up...
The F20C had titanium connecting rods, slivers of cylinder walls, and three levels of variable valve timing.

The car mags seem to be written less and less by people who actually know about cars and engines...

We do not have those modifications available yet, so how can you say an engine that has over a decade of aftermarket support is better because of the "mods" you can do to it?

I/H/E, and an e85 tune is all we really have in terms of "bolt on" performance modifications.

Fa20 I/H/E and an e85 tune makes less power than a k20 with I/H/E and an e85 tune?
I had multiple k20 and k24 motors and i made 225whp with just I/h/E and tune with the mods you said to add will make the k20 hit close to 300 whp. You sir need to drive one asap cause my fa20 compared to the k20 feels like crap

sr20 is made of adamantium when compared to a 2zz.

I think the 225 of possible because I've seen it. While I doubt the 300 number, I don't know if it's really the same motor in the civic as it was when the k20 was in the rsx.
