I agree throwing parts at a car and expecting a certain result can leave you dissappointed but the right parts combined with a tune can yield impressive results. This has been seen over and over again on this forum. It has also been seen that certain exhaust components help more than others. Some intakes have only hurt performance and throttle response. A little more credibility might be given to your post if you mentioned the header brand which has remained "nameless". Personally, I can't wait for my FA20Club header which should be here Monday.

I wonder what kind of power TRD was able to achieve with the headers on the TRD Griffon car now that you mention it.

This video(below) on the comment section mentions the setup:
"The amazing thing is that this engine is stock, the only modifications were a TRD-RACE- Exhaust-Manifold, 1st-CAT has been deleted, 2nd-CAT has been replaced by a TRD-RACE-CAT and a TRD-RACE-CATBACK-System!!!"

I hope the header brand he is referring to is a 3 letter Japanese brand starting with "H".. or at least "T"

Yes and I'm Santa Claus the easter bunny and Carol Shelby on the internet.

Anyone can make up some line of bs. I'm glad you found a hobby out of trolling forums but don't make baseless claims and expect people to believe you.

Just sharing my experience from what I saw on my local tuners Dyno.....headers and exhaust removed, OEM replaced.....20 whp gained. StormTrooper call AWD Tuning in Texas and come back and repost. And you sir, whats your skin in the game?,...are you trolling to find trollers? 20Firestorm13 you want to step in now?

Entire Exhaust Considerations:
0. Weight Saving (little to none?)
1. UEL Vs EL
2. Cat Vs. Cat Delete, complicated because there are two cats here and you could delete one or either.... so really,
2. Full Cat Vs. Front Cat Vs. Rear Cat Vs. Cat Delete
3. Straight Vs Dual Exit Exhaust (not sure here)
4. Don't forget wide band sensor. (and placement)
5. Brand / Research
6. 2.5" Vs. 3" (NA Vs. FI)
6. FI or not. This is bigger than gets discussed I think, leading to the type of confusion going on here. I'm under the impression now that a new header isn't necessarily going to mean gains in torque or hp. What it can mean is:
6A. Keeping things properly cooled in a FI setup.
6B. Allowing proper through-put in an FI setup.
6C. Extending life of engine.
7. ECU Considerations; will you leave it alone or
7A. Piggy Back Vs. Replace Vs. Flash

Which would mean choosing a header based on your goal; and having to consider a lot of variables. Sounds easy to end up with no gains or even a loss as mentioned.

Is there other stuff going on here that I probably wouldn't know as a noob?

6C is an important consideration, getting rid of those cats so close to the heads is only going to extend engine life.

I think the gains people are seeing with header+tune is largly from getting rid of those cats. I don't know how CF6 got rid of the cats without an aftermarket header, but what he is saying makes some sense to me. Seems like the cheapest way to lose those cats is a Borla UEL for those of us without a welder.

Call them for proof,..since I'm a bullshitter ,... AWDTUNING 469-277-3001, they are in Texas,...most noted and reputable Subaru tuners in the area.......talk to Keith or Mary,...thought it very odd myself,...specially the big name behind it.

Long story short, his cat died early and blew his turbo out (early accelerated kit with lower mount position). He kept th now catless stock header.
