Any more info on this set up?
  • Which hydramat is the best fit / size for the stock fuel tank?
  • Which replacement fuel pump is recommended?
  • Are any additional components required to fit the hydramat?

Currently running E85 and at my favourite track (Phillip Island), I have starvation after only 6 laps from a full tank. If I run back to back sessions, I have starvation in pretty much every corner.

I'm trying to avoid going to a surge tank, which seems to be the default option in Australia.

- depends on your situation, but we generally recommend the huge one (30x15 or something?)
- Denso
- Magnets

The question is, what is the actual *cause* of your starvation?

Thanks!

My understanding (based entirely on reading this forum) is that it is caused by the siphon on the left side of the car sucking in air once the fuel has sloshed to the right side.
Should the Hydramat be installed to connect to this siphon?

This makes sense to me, because I only have problems at higher fuel levels (above 3/4's of a tank) at turn 12 of Phillip Island:

Apex speed is around 160km/hr (~100MPH) and I usually experience starvation straightening out at roughy 175km/hr (~110MPH)

You can sort of see it in this video, right before I shift to 5th.

If this will solve the problem, I will go ahead and order everything.

It sounds to me like you have a different issue; at 3/4 of a tank, even turning the car sideways completely, would not starve the pickup.

Are you NA? What fuel pump are you on?

I find it very odd too.

All stock fuel pump, running E85 and NA. Running either NT01's or Hankook Z221 mediums.
There are at least two others who are reporting the same problem.

My thought was that 3/4 tank was the point where there is just enough room for the fuel to move away from the pickup for a second, to take in a little air.
I haven't opened my fuel tank to know how true that is though.

Could it be that E85 is too much for the stock fuel pump in these conditions?

Did CSG release their tire results? The last time I was on track my PSS were getting greasy half way through 25 minute sessions and I'm trying to decide what to use for a dedicated HPDE set with a bit of autocross duty

I am one of these people. It got to the point that I was only getting 2 laps from a full tank around winton raceway.

Left corners only, Right corners are cherry so I cant see the pump being the issue. It gets worse when i step up from z222 RS3s to z221 TD softs.

I even ghetto rigged a second fuel pump on the siphon side of the tank to force fuel into the siphon hose to fill the cup where the original pump sits. (this was all in the tank. nothing external)

This seemed to work for one session then had the same issue again on the next few sessions. (probably the ghetto setup)

I have been speaking to people who have made something but no exact details yet. I wont be doing any more track days unless this issue is fixed.

example video

the hydromat idea on the siphon side makes sense though. may give that a try if other avenues don't work out.

? Tire results for?

While we're always running different tires, it's not for the expressed purpose of comparison to determine a "best" tire. Most tires have an ideal circumstance, that doesn't always suit everyone's needs/preferences/style/etc.

The strange part to me, is that on long extended lefts with boosted cars, that are on gas, we don't have this issue, and the rate of consumption is approximately similar, if not higher, on the boosted car.

Have you ever logged fuel pressures?

I wish I could. I don't know if it's possible with an openflash tablet, or without a separate sensor.

Although I can't imagine it would shown anything other than the fuel pressure dropping, considering how much worse the same symptom gets as the fuel level gets lower.
Just speculation though without data.

Anyone recall the location of a thread that did a oil viscosity vs oil pressure comparison? I want to say it was by CSG, GSpeed or Velox.
