BRZ Custom SQ Audio Install

Hey guys

Just picked my ride up from the installers and have finally finished up my audio build.

Kit list as follows:

Headunit
Pioneer App Radio 2

Inputs
Kiwi PLx OBD2 wifi link
GPS, Bluetooth
Iphone via dock
Reverse cam
ebrake bypass

Processor
Alpine PXA H100 with RUX controller

Amps
Eclipse XA1000
Eclipse XA2000
Arc Audio Mni KS 125.4

Speakers
Front - Active 3 way Hybrid Audio drivers
L1 Pro

*L3SE
http://store.12velectronics.com/prod...eaker-Set.html

L61-2
Sub
Boston Acoustics G3

Massive props to Phatt, who have done nothing but epic install and got all the go louds bits to work.

Build request was pretty simple, stealth install of speakers and amps into factory locations, keep the tools, lose the spare tyre, quick release sub box and minimal sound deadening to keep it light for track days.

As a daily, I wanted to retain as much space as possible for snowboard, clubs, bodies and large quantaties of cash / drugs.. this car is so versitile ;p

The car will be doing the rounds on the audio comp scene in the coming months, will see if the $$ + SQs ;p

Install pics from go to whoah!!

Final boot install

With stealthy cover

Factory vs Hybrid tweeter upgrade

Grills needed to be ground back, and hex trim removed

Acrylic rings made up for the mids

Glued into place to prevent audio leakage and installed back into the factory spots

Off with the doors and plastics

Sound deadening strategically applied to the inner and outer door skins

Custom fiberglass sub box being constructed in the boot well. Had to be removable without having to unscrew the driver for quick weight shedding

Layering up..

The pros use foil and wax as as base coat, new box pops out with no residue left behind

Building the base

And the new top fascia piece to be trimmed in factory carpet

Built strong enough to accommodate some load

Custom rings made up for the 6.5" door speakers and extra clearance depth

Mids going in

Dash speakers going in

All neatly tucked away

Well thats the fun part over with.. now gotta spend 200+ hrs breaking in the new drivers and endless tuning fun ive got with the DSP.

Will post up thoughts / reviews once Ive had a chance to listen to it all in a bit of depth, but so far so good

Interesting choice of kit; curious to see how those drivers perform in the stock locations with minimal reinforcement.

Looks good. I haven't heard any of the new Boston subs but I loved my Pro 10" that I was using around 2003-2004. Let us know how that PXA-H800 works out for you.

So far it all sounds pretty epic.. had the processor hooked up to the lappy last night to do some tuning, time correction and eq'ing.. benefit of a 4 way active system is you manually set crossovers, levels, eq's and timing on each individual speaker and blend the sound across all drivers.

Heaps of tuning still required, but have SQ comp finals on next weekend, will see how she stacks up once the judges have had a listen

Are you using a RTA or alpine's software to tune?

Using RTA to get the eq curve and Alpine sound manager software via laptop connected to DSP. Science and math can only get you so far, a well trained ear is still required to know what to do.

The RUX controller can do all tuning on the go, but have not mounted into center console or anywhere I would be tempted to play with it while driving.. hidden in the glove box for now

I agree a trained ear will help the most with system tuning.

Hey guys,

Few quick updates with the audio build.. Wasn't happy with the finish of the boot install, thought id build up something a bit lighter and more presentable

Started off by photoshopping a false floor with go loud bits on display

Then got to work building up a template.. used this method with playing cards and cardboard a few times, works a treat for a perfect cut and flush finish

Traced out template onto some plastic corrugated cardboard and cut away the square shapes with a Stanley knife and router for the circle

Installed hidden supports to raise the floor piece to be level, then glued a foam sheet to the top to hide any screw holes, corrugation and imperfections underneath

Now just gotta trim this up in vinyl and work on a protective top piece in factory carpet

Nicely done! Never seen the playing card trick before but it makes complete sense!
