I am curious though about space on the swap - is it with AC? How the hell did you fit the accessories in that engine bay, room for a Tremec 6060 or just mated to the stock tranny? I assume the latter so wonder how the gears will do with the increased torque.

Kind of prevents people from putting in an old leaded gas engine from the old days into a modern car. If it is an offroad only vehicle then all bets are off

I weighed my LS2 RX-7 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway over the weekend, 2983 lb. with 3/4-tank of fuel, 50/50 distribution (~49.5F/50.5R with me in it). 20 gallon tank, so -15gal*6.3 lb/gal => ~2890 lb. empty. It's up 100 lb over stock (with A/C, p/s, etc. btw), but that weight gain includes bigger brakes/wheels/tires, 2qt accusump with plumbing from back of car to front, and a 4-pt roll bar. Typical weight gain on an FD is ~50 lb, I'm kinda surprised that you gained 240 lb!
Car must be an absolute riot

At least get an rx with a motor that's already blown up, shouldn't be hard to find ![]() With an 86 I may not agree with getting rid of it, but it IS just a 2L boxer, nothing terribly unique or innovative about it. Yeah a step forward technologically and efficiency wise but nothing groundbreaking. I just think there are a few exceptions to your "who cares it's a car" statement. |

The rotary engine is a pain in the ass when it comes to real life. Yeah, it revs high, is unique, etc. But it consumes oil faster than most engines, consumes gas basically like a V-8, lacks usable torque and isn't exactly the most bulletproof, reliable motor out there.

To be fair, the LS is just ONE V-8. Not all of them have that uber flat torque curve combined with a crazy tall sixth gear. I remember when I used to post on rx8club.com, most people were getting 21-22 mpg on the HIGHWAY.
