I agree I'm living in a town home and I'm paying $2600 a month for three bed rooms and 2 baths... to much I think...but that's living in SoCal

true, but as a native and considering the other places i've been in the country (so far) i wouldn't want to live anywhere else. it's a bit overpopulated in SoCal, but there's so much to see, do, etc. not only that but you've got all sorts of topography to enjoy if you want to switch it up (i.e. beach to snow, we've got it). plus, if you can make it here to be able to afford a home (which i'm hell bent on doing) you can make it anywhere else, I believe. beautiful girls, beautiful weather and lots to see and do. can't beat it!!!

Hahah yeah. But I am married so no need for beautiful girls since I have one

You guys are lucky with the variety of outdoor offerings. Personally I would probably pick OR/WA over Cali. But that is just me. I know people who love Cali and never want to move. But I haven't been that impressed where I would want to move there for the rest of my life. For a few years would be the most.

Your state gov has really screwed things over. I'd rather be in a state a bit more financially responsible. Anyways a topic for the off topic section. Plus no need for me to enter the Cali forum and talk bad about your state. Wasn't my point.

Crazy. Is that an average town home and average rent? Or is it crazy fancy and in a great location?

The only reason I ask is I'm trying to get a general gauge of cost of living in Cali. I am applying for residency this fall as I finish med-school in 13 months. Some places in Cali look interesting but I will be on a fixed income and the slight increase in salary doesn't make up for the increase in cost of living.

What part of Cali specifically, mang? I've lived in many parts of Cali, so I may be able to give you rough figures to consider. Either that, or I can ask for ya.

3 areas: SanFran, Palto Alto, and LA (specifically close to UCLA).

Haha. Conveniently some of the most expensive areas in Cali :P for college housing. I went to UCSD and lived in La Jolla. Paid ~$500 per month (rent+utilities) for half of a room in 2009. The room itself was pretty big and had 3 closets + its own bathroom. The dimensions from the apt's website: http://www.gardencommunitiesca.com/l...egencia_03.gif. I lived in both types of bedrooms in from 2007-2009. My guess is you'll pay around the same for half a room? Maybe $700 for your own room that may be smaller. Hope this helps!

Haha thanks. So basically telling me it will be expensive.

Wife and I will need some space. Rest of the country we are looking at buying. Cali we would rent. In the Midwest we could buy and mortgage be around $700/month. Places we are looking at are $2-3k to rent a average/smallish place in SF. I think Palo Alto was similar. Not sure about LA.

I'd go if I didn't have class. Boo.

And I have to actually start looking for a place to stay in Carson/compton soon. :x

Since my schooling is there. I'm not very fond of leaving the comfort of free housing, food, and freedom yet.

I'll be there as well, if scheduling doesn't suck that week.
