I heard a pop on cold start once this winter. *gulp*

Sorry for the noob question, but when you guys get the DI issue, does it show up as check engine light and is displayed on the code reader?

The popping back in the inlet manifold during cold start/cat warmup is most likely nothing to do with the fuel injectors. It's to do with a very aggressive spark angle.
All this talk about parts being made wrong and tolerances is theory from the unqualified on this forum and it's having a negative impact on new owners who come on here and read this drivel. You guys really should stop this as you're going to create a bad name for our cars when it's really unjust. |

It's not really a condition the engine is super happy running in (think: anti-lag, it's basically the same kind of idea), so a couple of misfires during this phase of warm-up isn't the end of the world. It's not related to transient det problems killing injector seals!! |

I've been noticing misfires as well during start and warm-up and they didn't worry me because they happened in the exhaust.
But in this case people have been talking about misfires or popping sounds from the intake/engine-bay, which should particularly not happen in the warm-up phase because of late ignition. |

Without including info on whether or not the engine management software has been altered ("running a tune"), this poll is fairly useless. It seems several individuals have suffered engine damage due to bad tunes, and are trying to work up as big a stink as they can to pressure the makers into paying for their tuners F-ups. Some claim to have the issue with stock cars, but when pressed for info, most with the DI leaks admit they paid someone to play with their ECU.

I'm keen to hear an explanation why a 12-15 ATDC late ignition would cause a misfire in the intake and not in the exhaust given the fact that the exhaust valve opens before the intake valve.
![]() Besides, one should at least be allowed to ask why one should pay $25 k more for a new BRZ (yes they do cost significantly more in Europe than in the US) than a new Fiat Punto when one is not allowed to drive it aggressively in order to not void the warranty anyway. |

I didn't say you can't drive aggressively. I just said that Subaru voids the warranty if you go on a track or autocross it (and the injector seals happen to fail). I just find this a littlebit lame considering what they charge for this car in Europe.
