My guess is not enough people have reported the issue for them to warrant creating a TSB for it in the system. Hopefully if enough people complain to Toyota/Subaru corporate will create the TSB which will allow the dealers to apply the updated cal.

Only other option would be to get the latest cal from a tuner. You would still be stock, but you would have to pay for the update.

Speaking from the perspective of a track enthusiast and someone who would like to be able to subject the car to the type of behavior in the S.African Toyota bulletin, I view this car incomplete w/o the reflash. I'm of the opinion that this car is untrackable and have ceased and desisted from treating this car like anything other than a commuter prius. I feel like my track enthusiasm puts me square in the danger zone that Toyota specifies and that makes me very disappointed in this car.

I understand you guys "< 1% of owners" argument but that absolutely sucks for us who are at risk. It's frustrating that Toyota would ignore the early adopters and marginalize us with substandard service. It'd be one thing if it was just forum speculation but Toyota themselves came up with the initial diagnosis.

I feel like I have 3 options:
1) wait for toyota to reflash the early adopters - starting to wonder if it'll happen or if we'll continue to be ignored.
2) address the faulty tune in the aftermarket, void my warranty, and cross my fingers
3) sell the car

I'll be very disappointed in Toyota if they force me into 2 or 3 by not handling their business in option 1. Maybe I can sell it to some of you > 1%'ers who continue to work against those of us who feel we are at risk.

Do you have the option to buy 100 octane at the track? Cheap insurance if you're not willing to commit to a tune + oil cooler yet.

100 octane might help to mask detonation problems but I don't believe that to be an adequate solution. I don't want the hassle, headache, and expense of being wrong.

That's understandable. I also hope Toyota reflashes everyone to the latest tune. Good luck finding your solution!

Recommendation? Deal with it or sell the car. I doubt Toyota/Subaru are going to do anything. Cold start and A/C idle issues are probably the least of your or their worries with this car.
These don't sound like DI issues. My idle was fixed by the fall 2012 dealer flash.

Are you guys using Toyota 0w20? This engine loves real 0w20's like the Mazda, Toyota, and Sustina. Huge improvement from cold start (even in the summer) when I switched to the new Moly Mazda SN 0W20. I was using a 5w20 and it lugged/stumbled till warmed up.

Since the new DI seals my engine has been flawless (although I don't rev over 5200rpm till I get the new flash.)

See the classifieds section I have it for sale for a very reasonable price , pysch ; just kidding its a keeper. Worst case for 2012 build date owners now is a flash from the $500 Open Tablet, not enough to keep bitching about.

Okay so you can check your CalID in Torque. It's in "Adapter Status" under "Calibration ID". Just checked mine - May 2013 build date, BRZ, 01C.

My car developed what I believe is this issue over track usage on the weekend. Rather warm (close to 100) weekend at Buttonwillow.

Pretty sure first time I heard it was when accelerating out of the first corner after the straight. At first I attributed the sound to pebbles stuck to the tires popping off and hitting the wheel well but unfortunately it wasn't.

Cut the last session short and drove home carefully. Under normal highway speed there's no noise but if you throttle a bit relative to the speed in any gear there's a rather loud pop from the engine compartment. Dezorias described it like popping an air hose off under pressure and that it a pretty good description.

I'll bring in to the dealer later in week and have it looked at. Will write an update when I know more.

Stock engine, 5000 miles and about 10 track days. I drive pretty hard but not full at track days and definitely quick shift up near readline (how else would you get speed out of this low torque engine?)

Edit:
On 91 octane (from the race track pump so most likely good quality gas)
Got my car from the factory March 2013
Checked engine codes with GoPoint and DashCommand and it had P0303 misfire on cylinder 3

Edit2:
Toyota called and said it was indeed injectors. Parts on order and it will be a few days.

Edit3:
Toyota fixed on warranty. The notes mention that injector 3 was found to have bushing missing which sounds odd, but I couldn't get any in depth information from the front desk people. Keep my fingers crossed this will not happen again. I'll mix in some 100 octane for track days for a little bit of extra safety margin per some people's comments.

Good idea to cut your session short. Were you on 91 octane at the time?

Mine's been doing this since new. It's a feature.
