Here's an event where a Hillclimb and Autocross were sort of combined.

This is a video of the first practice run, slower but may have a higher entertainment value as I was catching up to a Renault Clio RS:

(I used a headrest tablet holder to fix the camera, which apparently was a bad idea).

um.. autocross? good lord that's a full blown hill climb..

around here that type of racing, even with the pylons, would demand rollcages for safety bare minimum.

definitely something I'd only participate in if I had this and the next car fully paid off

They call this Slalom here. I think this was the most fun I had with this car so far.

The Hillclimbs they have around here are way, way faster and there you are required to have a roll cage, a special fuel cell, fire extinguisher etc.

I've meanwhile had a chance to run that same course (first post) in the dry:
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2SGdUB6hmk&"]BRZ in a Dry Autocross/Hillclimb - YouTube[/ame]

After the finish, I got that f@&% ice mode again and almost hit a barrier. Since I was braking too hard in that finish-turn, which I guess shouldn't have, but was running out of road. (I guess one could try to be smoother, but it's not like one can practice these kind of courses on the playstation and sear it into one's memory. Anyway, this may probably be the cheaper option in the long run: http://www.bosch-motorsport.de/en/de...s_1_230947.php)

On the very bright side, I managed to get the quickest time of all cars on road legal tires.

Rx3, I really appreciate the videos. It's great to see other 'grassroots' motorsports outside the US!

I agree that in the US they would require us to have full cages for that hill climb. You were definitely attacking the course 110%!

n8dog11914, thanks for your feedback.

This is a slalom and not a hillclimb (officially). Our hillclimbs have no cones at all.
Also, on this slalom they have road legal cars on Saturday and race cars on Sunday. They remove one chicane on Sunday and all cars running on Sunday are required to have rollcages.

I agree, that it is a little fast and too close to the woods without rollcages. I think this has also historical reasons. They've been doing this since the 1960's (when risk taking in auto racing was just more custom) and as far as I know there has never been a fatal accident.

On our hillclimbs all cars are required to have a FIA approved rollcages, fuelcells, harnesses and what not.
And on those hillclimbs they occasionally still do have a fatal accident. For instance, that green Opel in the video above was completely smashed and the driver was seriously injured at a hillclimb (he's limping now but he survived).

At the corvette museum they do something similar to this called a "Track-X". Little safer since there's only fencing you can hit, but I've gone to 4th at it. If any of you are near Bowling Green KY when they have one and you'd rather do this than a full blown track event, give it a shot.

Anyways, hope this isn't thread crapping, just wanted to share if someone wanted to drive fast like this here in the US. Your video was awesome, not sure I'd be so daring in the wet with my 86

Thanks for sharing.
(I was still 13 seconds faster in the dry. So, I was definitely more careful when it was wet).

I think that's the point. We have two slaloms on parking lots and only about a third of the usual crowd shows up (even though it costs less than half). If they would put up more cones and slow it down significantly, many people would probably not show up anymore. (Having to take the risk of potentially totaling the car is probably part of the appeal too.)

If it weren't for all the lawyers in the US, we could do this here.

We still have to sign a waiver. (We understand the risks and in case anything happens it's our own responsibility and won't sue the organizer.)

All participants also need to pay about $30 into an accident insurance which takes care of a participant in case one gets injured. (Given the fact that this amount is relatively low, also shows that serious accidents are very rare).
