I think if that was true, nobody would be buying the twins, and that's obviously not the case. They're not even close to the fastest accelerating cars in the price range - the turbocharged I4 hot hatches are pretty much all faster, as are the larger sports coupes with V6 and V8 options. WRX, GTI, Mazdaspeed3, Focus ST, Genesis, Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, 370Z, all are faster. Heck, there's probably a number of V6 sedans that are quite a bit faster.

It's obviously not all about acceleration, otherwise none of us would have bought the twins in the first place.

I wouldn't have gotten a turbocharger even if it had been an option. Increased weight worsens the handling and ride, fuel mileage and reliability would suffer as well.

I don't believe you can claim that everyone who owns one of the twins wanted a turbocharged motor. If any of us really wanted it that much, we'd have bought a different car or gone aftermarket FI, and the number of NA twins floating around is a clear statement that plenty of people are fine with 200hp.

Yea the s2k failed because it was so impractical it screamed "don't buy me" I remember that It didn't get good mileage, it came only with a manual gear box, and it was a 2 seater convertible with zero practicality. All great things for a petrol head with a lot of money laying around. Not so much for people with a life. It's an awesome car though.

Seriously -- one of the first press releases I read about these cars was how they are a throwback to a less expensive sporty car with great handling that young people could afford to buy ,work on, and modify to their heart's desire.

I've seen both turbo and supercharger kits for the twins, and countless other mods available as well -- mission accomplished?

I actually dont mind 200hp cause the 86 is pretty efficent for the amount fuel it uses when you keep the revs up. Plus with proper weight shift and a heavy foot the back comes around nicely on the crappy factory tires, and thats good nuff for me when its 1.50 per liter up here for 91 octane.

The twins will get more power, it's just a matter of time. With that being said i think they will be around for an easy 10 years.

Lotus Car company is a mess. Who knows what will happen to them. The Elise/Exige has not been sold in the US for years since it does not offer stage 2 airbags (you cannot sell a car in the US without them).

I have always wanted an Elise or Exige, but they are hard to find and very expensive. The BRZ is good enough for me

The number of NA twins floating around simply makes it clear that aftermarket turbo kits are expensive...

And I would be perfectly fine with 200hp...to the wheels...

Oh, so we're expecting to see a factory FI BRZ at the current price? Is there any reason to believe that a factory FI BRZ would cost any less than a NA one with aftermarket FI?

Toyota has announced plans to make two more cars based on the gt86 platform. one to be priced even lower than the gt86 smaller lighter and less hp from my understanding, and on the other side a slightly larger and more powerful version, ie supra. so there you go.

Farm in projects work and it was obviously Toyotas bankroll that could sport this car and I'm happy for it as was getting bit dissaponted waiting for next Supra. Anyone who followed the Celicas or Supras knows they didnt stop making them due to not enough success it's just Toyotas cycle is all they've done this for years making/stopping/making then again and again...
The Supras power train to date is still referred to as one of the best ever..if they make Supras again ill get one and keep my 86 as well no doubt.

Subaru needed a car that was a 2 door looker, I respect the wrx and STI for performance and abilities but I don't ever want one cause they to me just don't attract me not one bit, if I wanted a performance family car maybe they would I dunno....

Time will be the only teller here but my thoughts are these will be here for awhile, they're gaining more ground and interest daily. I can't tell you how many cars there are worth 3 times the amount I find ugly and of no interest. Sure there are cars close to price with way more power and so on but there is nothing "this good looking" out there under a hundred grand at least not for me anyhow.

I drive my car and sometimes think this car would be perfect with an H6 engine. And an even more perfect car with a turbo H6 engine.

If they do something like that for the next supra, I'd seriously consider buying when I'm a little older and after we're all settled. Right now I'm a little young for another new sports car though but damn that would be nice.

Its funny I was never too much of a fan of the original, but if they can make the new supra more of a "driver's car" then it would be a serious contender for my future mid life crisis wallet.

That is about the industry's worst kept secret. At SEMA last year the toyota guys were all over the FI modded cars and talking with the SC and TC manufacturers. My only point is that there has been clear interest since this car was born. This is a good thing.

Thanks for the specific information though. Very interesting. If this is at dealer level now, I would expect the leaks to pick up.

Now the question is: do the business decision makers decide to go forward with it?
