I don't call the deal we have with a dealer here a GB, just a pre-neg deal. We are paying 500 over invoice instead of MSRP, but only a few of us were allowed on.

To the dealership, that's more advertising and hitting their quota easier and more importantly potential future sales as good dealerships are shockingly hard to find. The limited nature of the car stopped the deal early on though.

Giccin's deal helped make mine possible IMO. Personally I'd take 500 over invoice on a brand new car over MSRP anyday, let alone the MSRP+$$$ that some (many?) dealers will try for.

Sure I could wait and pay even less, but I don't want/have to. If I had to pay MSRP I would wait though.

Until this forum, I've never heard of doing a GB for a brand new car that hasn't been released yet. To me, it seems like you aren't gaining much other than putting yourself behind others on a list. I find it hard to believe that you are going to get a dealer to commit to selling the car at a low price to many people just to move quantity. There will be a limited quantity available so the dealer will not have any trouble moving them with or without a GB.

A GB makes sense if you want to get a car that is sitting on a lot (or readily available) as the dealer can get as many cars as they can sell, ie an impreza for example. In that scenario the dealer has motivation to come up with great pricing because they will make 8 or 10 sales that they might not otherwise make. With this car, it will probably be at least 6 to 9 months before you find one of these cars sitting on the lot due to lack of a buyer.

Just curious to see what people are hoping to gain going that route.

I'll be honest with you...I never done a GB with buying a brand new car but my friend has, when he was waiting the new 2012 Honda Si...at the end of it he got a great price on the car also free oil changes for 3 years and a great discount on Hondas aftermarket parts at the dealer..

I would love doing a GB with subaru cause of there SCP (South Coast Performance) parts

I guess your post is exactly my point. You aren't going to find a dealership that is going to sell this car to 10 people for invoice + $500. Exactly why giccin's deal got killed.

That makes sense he would get a good deal, but the civic SI is only slightly more exclusive than a civic lx or an impreza. There are 24 civic si sitting on dealer lots within 25 miles of my home.

My deal wasn't killed because of the deal ($300 above invoice). It was killed because of a false promise and by a bunch of really bad business/salesmen.

Anyways I gave Irvine Subaru a call. They're getting the most BRZs in all of the SoCal dealerships. I've updated my GB thread and will visit them on either Friday... or Saturday to see what's really happening. They've seen me before since they were the first dealership I went to about the group buy.

It was technicaly new, but it was probably the least "new" of any new car in history. Minor engine and body tweaks and that was it. There are already rumors that honda wants to push up the cycle refresh by 2 years because of their folly. The civic si hasn't been an "in demand" car since the late 90s.

We've been told that BRZ allocations will be based on previous year Imprezza/WRX/STI sales, assuming they have had the best numbers in the state it could be true.

Though, with everything I've seen about this car, I'd take it with a grain of salt. As far as most manufactures are concerned dealers are mushrooms (keep em in the dark and feed them shit). I'd put my money on you learning more from this site than from any Salesman in the country. We will know everything they learn pretty much as soon as it is released.

i view GB as a form of collective bargaining. as with any bargaining, if the quantity is significant enough, it will drive interest for the seller to negotiate for a better price.

Cars aren’t typically a good GB material because for one its a costly spending for most buyers, and two most cars typically don’t generate enough interest to gather substantial amount of buyers for a dealer to consider a deal profitable.

however, as you are aware, the development of this car lead up to this point have made this initial lunch a unique opportunity for a group buy.
