Replace the load cells in red with -30 degrees or so should see you safe.

So if you do a 4th/5th gear pull to redline, will it behave the same as what you've demonstrated?

Everyone is worried about 2-3 3-4 4-5 5-6 gear shifts at wot! But what about 1-2 shifts at wot. This is mainly a concern for those of us that Autocross.

That is because Toyota South Africa has acknowledged that the issue happens on those shifts, and not on the 1-2 shift. Toyota South Africa says the issue only happens above 5200rpm. You have to shift out of first AFTER the redline in order to land in second above 5200 rpm according to the Toyota South Africa TSB.

That TSB shows that you land into third at just over 5200 rpm, but it says the issue is on the 3-4, 4-5, 5-6 shifts, not 2-3.

Doesn't the ECU reduce the max power in 1st and 2nd gears?
That might reduce this problem?

Moto East has a very good ECU tune for the FRS/BRZ. I wonder if this would be enough to avoid the factory ECU tuning's detonation?

They must tune specifically to address the issue or it will still be there.

I've NEVER heard of that (ECU "reducing power" for lower gears) outside of vehicles with very specialized motors/purposes (trucks or racing maybe?), would love to see evidence of that in commercial passenger vehicles, would be interesting.

It's considered not an issue because the gap in the ratios is large enough that the rpms fall down below 5200 with the 1>2, 2>3 gear changes, as such the lean condition that results in detonation does not occur. At least that's the "official logic" at the moment.

Lots of passenger vehicles do. Don't belive the '86 does though. AFAIK it reduces power depending on water/oil temp.

That's not what they are talking about. That safety feature is in place for regardless of any gear until things are warmed up

I know, I should have used separate paragraphs.

Source?

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I'd just love to see some evidence aside from "trust me".
