Cheaper to adapt an existing architecture that they already have (own FHI, who owns Subaru, who have the FB boxer engine) than to create an entirely new engine.

You know, there's this whole economic downturn thing going on globally right now. Cost has always been a factor in this car.

I would disagree, but then again I make and design things for a living and constantly have nagging napkin drawers telling me how easy it all is.

And I'm a D!C% on the forums...so take it for what it is but don't expect free parts in the mail because you almost started to have what might eventually be developed into an idea

Amen.

Were you ever in the biz of making parts for 240sx? I had an oil block for my ka24de from a company called SkullWorks.

Update:

Our regional rep and the Subaru of America rep are supposed to conference to discuss the car. The regional rep is the one that authorized the teardown of the engine, while the SoA rep is the one that is denying the claim. Unsure of how this will turn out.

I strongly suggest taking an audio recording if you are going to be present, then giving us a transcript. Would love to hear that convo.

Yes sir, Happy with It I hope, I even went so far as to make my own AN-ORB fittings since I couldn't find any OTS that actually met the Specs for the port or the flow diameter...Im really really really anal

Mike I think when you take this call its a good opportunity to take a positive approach.
I have had this types of calls with vendors I deal with at work when we run into engineering problems.

Tone is everything, I suggest you make sure you hammer home the point that while this current damage is a problem its an opportunity to learn and implement the proper prevention to avoid more cases like this. Push transparency and avoid all finger pointing. That despite the issues you are here to help them in any way possible. Specifically since the car is relatively low volume working identifying the bugs now is extremely valuable to the product going forward.

I was working with Honda on a study about the 3rd gear issues with their manual transmissions and as soon as finger pointing started conversations would derail.

That's the way to approach every complaint in my opinion. I can't stand screaming morons. You are more likely to receive a positive outcome using this method vs the other immature approaches.
