I like the front of it. However, that back is.... pretty bad. The front looks like it could have that chrome smile with a little bit of work.

Those familiar with the early gen Celicas do know it was designed to mimic pony cars. So when you make a retro version, it's kinda hard not to look similar to other retro pony cars when its styling roots back to the same shared/common design cues of those same pony cars from decades ago.
The thing that might make this less "American" is to not give it a chop top look but a more lean, elegant, possibly ground hugging, conventional import look like the FR-S/BRZ, RX-7, NSX, Silvia, MR2, even the 2000GT and 3rd-7th gen Celicas). But I imagine it'd be a challenge to make that work given you're stuck with a "baby muscle car" shape to start with. I'd like to see what critics of this person's design propose would make it better. All I can think of is to replicate the original car's proportions. Avoid the chop top short roof with tall front bumper/sides and massage the finer details to modernize it.

Looks like a Camaro from all angles. Like a mini-Camaro.
I read that you noticed BMW and Toyota are collaborating together, but I doubt its going to be a Celica. I believe it's leaning more towards the Supra nameplate instead mainly because of its RWD characteristics. When the name of the Celica comes to mind, the only thing I think of are the good looking FWD cars made by Toyota that never quite matched up to the Integras and RSX's. I know the first few generations of the Celica were RWD when it was tied to the Supra. But once Toyota separated the two, the Celica went all out FWD. If Toyota and BMW were to collaborate together, I'm pretty sure it's going to be RWD and I'm pretty sure Toyota wouldn't want to follow a car that's last been known as an FWD. Of course, there's my favorite All-Trac Celica. But I highly doubt Toyota will have any interest to bring in a 4WD sports coupe. Especially with BMW. Of course nothing is official, and you are free to "reboot" anything you want. Obviously the first generation of the Celica captures your mind the most. But to me, it would be the All-Trac Celica. Maybe you can do a "reboot" of the All-Trac Celica too and show us. Hey! Toyota has already collaborated with Subaru. Subaru is well known for its 4WD and rallying. Maybe you can sketch another Toyobaru collab on a 4WD Rallying Celica! Good job though |

![]() Anyone who had owned or driven TA22 Celicas were either dead, or are in their 70s by now. I guess the Japanese's American pony car imitator wasn't as widely remembered as the Ur-model Porsche 911 (pictured).

Lexus readies BMW 6-Series challenger
![]() As predicted in the New Celica notes, Lexus is reportedly working on a replacement for the now-defunct Lexus SC coupe. According to a Japanese car magazine, the new car will be offered with two engine choices: a base 3.5-liter V6 and a more potent 4.3-liter bent-8. Expect one of them to be a hybrid. The new SC will ride on either a modified chassis that already underpins the current GS sedan or uses the upcoming BMW-Toyota sports car platform. Overall, the new 6-Series/CL-Class rival is 4,750mm long, 1,900mm wide with a height of 1,350mm. Production versions of the car will debut at the end of 2016. Production volume will be limited to just 600 units per month.

The 86 is really the closest styling wise to a new Celica and they could have easily called it that if they didn't put so much emphasis on the ae 86 history and inspiration.

No offense but it looks terrible to me. As the others said, it looks like a Mustang or Camaro or some American car. You aren't going to appeal to hardly anyone by making it look like the first Celica. Besides, the name Celica comes from the Japanese pronunciation of the word "sleek." That's like the opposite of sleek.
This is always my favorite Celica. I'd only consider buying one again if they made it AWD and look like this again: ![]()
