Alright I have an update!

Sounds like the no pre-orders rumor is true. The salesperson that e-mailed me checked with his manager and he was informed that Subaru aren't going to be taking specific orders for the BRZ. Each dealer will be allotted cars and they get what they get type of thing. Sounds pretty much in line with what other people are hearing, so even though it's not 100% confirmed, I'm pretty compelled to believe it.

My apologies for not posting this when I got it. Busy busy busy!

So what is it guys. Some are saying only orders others are saying no orders allowed. This makes no sense. Let's get the rumors straight, no one really knows anything since everything is contradicting itself.

Longhorn: Yeah I'm fairly convinced that there will be no pre orders at this point. I believed it initially (well after the initial 'wtf seriously?' moment) because it came from a Subaru rep (not dealer, but someone employed by Subaru) and the news was delivered to the sales manager. I tended to believe that the Subaru reps wouldn't BS the dealers on that news.

I got a feeling that there will be one car at the dealership for test drives as the demo car..
and all looking to buy will have to put a down payment on an order for a color, transmission and grade....
I Just hoping in 6-12 months its all done and I can buy the DEMO unit for cheap.

It's somewhat disappointing. I guess we'll just have to tell the dealer what color and trim we want and then wait it out until one shows up off the truck.

Maybe you won't be able to order from the factory but you "order" from the stock kept at Subaru's corporate warehouse. So you say you want a blue limited and the dealer sends in the order and gets it in during his next inventory shipment.

That would fit with both the "no factory orders" and the "only one tester per dealer" information.

This. Sounds to me like dealers will be receiving a car (color/spec decided by Subaru) for demonstration purposes, then people will be able to order what they want.

So do we finally believe that the first year will have limited supply?

I was always under the impression that it will be like that for both cars, the demand seems high all across the globe.

Yup. Doubt it will be easy to pay under MSRP unless one has it in writing already. Otherwise I see dealers going MSRP + $2-3k until the madness starts calming down.

That seems a little over the top. I sure hope you are wrong.

There was already a posting on here of a forum member (was it Zgrinch?) who said a Subaru dealer was going to mark it up about $2-3k for the car and they had a long list of people still interested in the car. Obviously each dealership will be different, but I see dealerships wanting to make a buck selling over MSRP. This always happens with new sports cars at first release. Supply and demand. Wait 6 months and you will be fine.
