To be an international champion the sears and contact surfaces need to be honed. That you can't do but many smithies can set you up (very cheaply as well).

I went a few steps further and installed a single action trigger, springs, completely changed the sear and hammer alignment, built up the sear housing with a welder to fit it tighter in the frame, shimmed the sear, and smoothed up the disconnector. I then modified a Kadet 22 conversion kit to fit the EAA frame for cheap practice. The gun now sits in my safe as the breach face on the 22 kit is completely worn out from firing 5,000 rounds per week when I was getting ready for the Washington State speed steel championship. I may fit a new slide someday, but for now it sits. It is one of the most comfortable frames I have ever owned.

Being in CA we pretty much can't carry at all. There has been some recent court action that has moved San Diego in the right direction (Peruta case), but it's still a ways to go before we become Shall Issue.

If I were to carry, it would likely be my XD45 Compact. Basically same dimensions as the full XD45, except with a shorter grip. It can interchange with full size XD45 mags, and can be used with a mag sleeve to essentially give it a full grip size as well. Currently it sits in a quick open safe by my bed with a TLR-1s on it loaded with Hornady Critical Defense loads. Also has a PRP drop-in match trigger, which would probably be replaced with the factory trigger if I ever carried.

My all-time favorite pistol is the XDM though, and if they weren't such a damn pain to get them here in CA I would have more of them. But I love my original model 9mm (notice the straight serrations on the slide, instead of the V-cut angle of the new ones). It also has a PRP match trigger, this is an old photo I took when I first got it.

Fits my hand perfectly as well !

Your mods are the way to go but it puts you in I.P.S.C standard, which puts you at a point disadvantage for the 9mm. caliber.

But that don't matter if you shoot as well or better than the .45's and you know it !

It was originally a USPSA open class gun in 357 Sig. Limited is a 1911, and stock is a Glock 35. I never competed in sanctioned IDPA events as they were just getting started when I was moving on. I did spend a good portion of many years running IDPA style self-defense shoots at a local club, and did my fair share of competition at a range run by the Firearms Academy of Seattle. Travis Tomasie was just getting started, and it was fun watching him come up through the ranks.

I run cqb shoots also, and I train cqb shooters. For practical reasons I prefer IDPA.
IPSC training will get you killed in a gunfight, but IPSC sure is fun !

There's nothing faster than an open gun in 38super with marginal loads just breaking the power factor limit - a double tap sounds like one shot -
Faster than an SMG !

You should try a well setup .22 rimfire if you want to see speed.

I used to run .10 spits with a limited class 1911, 200g semi-wadcutters, 5.8g of 231, pf of 185. I was able to win a stage at the 1994 Oregon Open with that single stack 1911 limited gun. 1996 I finally won the state championship in limited. I also have a number of trophies and plaques from sheriff's team shoots, and other self defense oriented competitions. I built the EAA Witness in 357 sig (originally was 40-09 but the 357 Sig came out during my build so I switch caliber). 115g bullets at a max of 1,700fps, but I ran it at 1,580 for everything but steel. I put a lot of time into that gun, but found I enjoyed the single stack more. I then started running the Glock 35 as a carry gun in the sheriff's department and after about 50,000 rounds I was faster with it than my 1911. Kind of made me sick. 1911 with Full Ti lockwork, Bar-Sto barrel, many hours of work into the gun, somewhere around a million rounds through it, and about $2,000.00 invested, and I was faster and more consistent with a $600.00 Glock. Once you get good at any one discipline, the others only take minor tweaking to fall into place.

.. and to stir the pot a bit, I only carry revolvers for self-defense. Airlight Ti .38spl, Talo Buntline in .22 mag, and occasionally a Ruger GP100 full underlug. Ti is carried inside the waistband in a Remora pointing at my junk, Talo is in an ankle holster, or there is a nylon jag down the barrel hanging from a chain around my neck.. or in a pocket. I have a number of holsters for the GP100, but I don't care for any of them.

Perfectly fair and I understand. I appreciate your understanding of my position in this matter, thank you.

If I could find one, I'd buy it - it's everything I want in a range pistol.

Exactly.

Less recoil less muzzle flip, more speed. Thats why the fastest IPSC guns were 38 super with compensators still making major calibre points.

The shadows in production class became really popular because they were the fastest cycling 9mm, and because the frame design fits so many people.

We have a lot of shooters competing in open now up here in Canada.

IDPA was traditionally carry guns like Glocks, but Shadows are starting to take over. Seems like the only competitors with Glocks and the like are those who carry them on duty, they use them to maintain muscle memory.

i'm sure you're quite aware of the problem of claiming that since the Swiss are okay with guns then New Yorkers should be too?

Isreal is in a constant state of war with like some ridiculously large perctange of the population, both male and female, in the active army with plenty more in reserve.

a friend of mine has 3 brothers in the Israel military. When she was over there with her fiance to meet the folks, she told me how this one morning her brother comes into the kitchen and goes "hey grandma, have you seen my rifle?" before grabbing an apple and going to work...

that is a whole other lifestyle over there..

to compare is to bring about its own set of problems of not only personal morals, but of national ideology.

I am 29 and have never carried a gun, i have gotten into my share of trouble but never felt the need to pop a cap into someone. I will never understand the thoughts of someone that not only carries a gun on them to feel protected. Either they live in a neighborhood that is hundreds of times worse than mine or they have an overly negative and paranoid view of other human beings.

but i think we'd all be better off if we didn't have guns at all..

now SWORDS... that's a thing i could get into..

I have a CCW.

I have a Mark II Browning Hi-power which was made the year before I was born, and was used in the Israeli Police force until I got my hands on it. Lots of holster wear. (its 9mm btw ..as if you have to ask)

I keep 4 mags for it

My mainstay is my FNS-9. I keep 5 mags for it ...

I also have a PS90 ..keep 7 mags for it (50 rounds a piece )

Ruger 10-22

If I had to choose itd probly be my FNS-9 and my Ruger 10-22 ..since I can carry so much .22 ammo .

Thats kinda why I bought the PS90 too.. Its a tough call between the two except ..if Shit hits the fan I can find .22lr a lot easier than I can 5.7X28. But power to weight ..you really cant beat 5.7x28 and 9mm combo. And I dont see myself engaging targets at ranges necessitating 5.56 or more.
