i dont think the quote is far off. there is a difference between diligent research and casually asking some stranger on a forum for financial advice.

fwd is the most cost effective platform we know of. there is a very real reason there are so many of them floating around.

I think the JP Morgan is pretty spot on. Someone that can easily afford a Porsche doesn't need to set aside $3000 a year for maintenance; they easily have that money available and it is a drop in the bucket in the scheme of their finances. Now, that person may choose to buy a used one because you don't get wealthy by pissing away money needlessly (especially if it is a toy), but they won't be trying to figure out if they can maintain or afford a used Porsche.

Note: there is a pretty well defined range of what mass produced cars cost to maintain yearly. It is pretty common sense that a newish Porsche is at the top of that range.

For me, it depends if my FR-S happens this winter. If it does, our next car will be whatever my wife wants. If it doesn't, an IS F sport will replace the leased Prius v Five in 3 years. 300h, 200t, or 350? Who knows. Depends what is out at the time.

I've always taken it to mean that if the price is such that it will determine whether or not you can't make ends meet, it's probably a bad idea to do it.

i.e. if $2k a year worth of maintenance will make or break you, you shouldn't get the car, because it's cutting it too close.

If it's just "I'd like a Porsche and know maintenance costs will be higher, but how much is that actually?", that's different than "I can put every spare penny into affording a Porsche, but how much is maintenance, I don't know if I can afford that too?"

The people have desired and toyobaru stepped up to the plate. Porsche may now sit in the geezer section. Most of the guys I see with Porsches are 50+, the last GT2 I saw was a bright red one with a guy who looked 70+, driving it. Everyone is different, some people would rather be the old fart with the Porsche and others would rather be young while having a really good sports car.

Right now, I think I'd like something small. Hopefully another rwd coupe. So probably a z4, 370z, or some porsche. But times change, maybe I'll be looking at a SUV or a family man sedan.

Well, sure, but what if you had the option of being young while having a Porsche (I'm 23)?

That having been said, I agree with the posters above. Personally, the maintenance on a Porsche is within what I can afford relatively easily. However, if it weren't, I'd rather have a BRZ and no financial concerns/stress over a Porsche where I was always worrying about how I would pay the next service/maintenance bill.

Then I might have got one, who knows but not a 911. The Cayman is actually better than the 911, funny how Porsche keeps the Cayman right below the 911. They can't have their best "entry" level car overshadowing their flagship. I could probably get an older model Boxster or Cayman but there are so many Porsches here that I like my BRZ and being semi unique. I've been a fan of that classic 60's sport car shape for years. The Shelby Cobra Daytona, Ferrari 250 GTO, 2000GT etc are all similar in shape. I did see a 928 a few years ago, nice car but a total nightmare in the maintenance dept.

Cayman is better than a 911?!? How so? Boxsters are garbage. The early models were extremely unreliable, while the newer models are greatly improved.
