Forgot to mentioned that at a recent non-SCCA autocross, two professional drivers showed up in a 99 Sport. They managed to beat me, barely. I lost first place by .1 second to an ex-IMSA Light driver, a man who is training a hopeful 2014 Indy 500 entrant currently.
Then a professional stunt driver beat me from the same car, by .008 If they could barely beat me on at a venue that I have a track record for doing very poor at, I don't think that E is the right class for this car

If the move to E-Stock is true, then it sounds like a move based off PAX times vs the MSRs and ZOKs. Feel bad for NB miata owners, though. They have no place to be competitive other than Street Prepared and Modified classes (loose all street-ability!).

Wow, that's crazy. When is it effective?
Edit: Yes, I can read. January 1.

Still think this is odd. I am not complaining but I still, I really thought CS was a good fit. Also, the base Solstice got moved to BS?

Assuming the move to ES doesn't change, it looks like ES is going to be bigger and CS will shrink a lot in in my area.

When I got my FRS I was planning to eventually modify it for STX, but now that I have raced it part of the season in CS, but with Dunlop ZII's (so really CS/RTR) I like the performance and the PAX factor. For STX I would have to make alot of changes $$$ for possible small improvement (I have gone down that road before).
I am just curious, who is planning to run E-Street (at least as it stands now), next year. I think Street is a pretty good category for this car right now. |

Glad I moved out of ES in the RX7... There's no way I could compete with the twins stock for stock (I'm naturally aspirated) on any tire. Our guys have been doing just fine in CS with the FRS/BRZ compared to other competition.

I don't see it happening. BUT, if it does, it's because SCCA feels giving a dedicated class to thew twins will bring new competitors to the scene. Though, there is a flaw (which Sam Strano has already pointed out, though I don't remember what thread or Facebook post it was). That point is that 95% of newbies show up with wider wheels and/or springs so they are already outside of stock/street.
Giving the car a class may help but it's not a sure thing. Even though I do like the idea of a near spec 86 class but that doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. Either way, I'll be there to run in it!

Other than the RPF1 (which won't be available until Septamber from Tire Rack), what are wheel options:
Light (ish) 14.x lbs Strong (ish) Moderately priced (ish) - RPF1 is $250 each. I am ok with that. Preferably easy to purchase - available online, not overnighted from Japan. Is there anything in the ballpark of a 17x7+42 RPF1 or do I just need to hold out until they become available? I was looking for some take-offs but people are pretty proud of wheels that they don't want anymore. And nobody wants to ship understandably. Koseis fit the bill, but I'd need to run a spacer and I would rather not have to change studs. Plus they look cheap IMO. |
