Cruising at 75 mph in boost isn't very ideal on the highway either, lol. That's about what, 3200 rpm?
You can cruise at 100 mph on zero boost. Boost is controlled by your foot and by result, engine load. If you are cruising on light throttle, no boost is created. You need to push the gas pedal, give engine load and then boost will be created.

You will get bored of the 400, and will want more. I recommend you gtx3076r.

I recommend you the gtx3076r. A hair (maybe 200-300 rpms) later spool than gtx2867r but the headroom of grow is incredible.
So you're saying it's worth the $400 upgrade regardless of having an end goal max of 400 whp? I figured the 28 would be more optimal for the goal range with less headroom, but very efficient in that power range. FBM premium kit is a pretty solid one from what I'm seeing.

I edited my post after reading your goals.

If you have had high power cars before, and know how 400, 500 whp feels, then I'd say stay with gtx28, because you won't regret it later down the road.

If this is your first high powered car, you will get bored of the 400 and want more. Get the gtx3076r, spool up is really close to gtx28 but the headroom great.

I talk about this based on real world results between my car and Jamesm car, reviewing each other logs, etc..

Yeah, I've been following your build since your AVO kit. I don't mind running the GTX3076r and it's probably worth the upgrade cost in the long run. Having a 340 whp Camaro SS, that was a good amount of power for me.

What it comes down to is my tuner, who will most likely be Junior when he's at Boost Logic in Austin. He's probably the most proficient tuner on Subaru's that visits Texas frequently.

I'm running the GTX3071r as I was concerned that the 3076 wouldn't give me the transient response I was looking for. Also I'm only running 8 to 11psi for the time being (before I go for a built engine next year) and wanted something that would perform well at these relatively low boost levels but give the power I wanted when I eventually go to 20psi hence my thoughts the GTX28 series would be too small.

I'm really happy with the GTX3071r - it runs great!

Can you please share some more detail on your setup

1) What fuel
2) Power and Torque
3) What rpm is xx psi reached at

As I've said before in other threads, the GTX3071 really works well on other platforms including the VW/Audi FSI engines, yet it hasn't really been explored in the FA20 world.

Hi, Unfortunately I cant give you all the info I'd like as I'm mid house build and 80% of my paperwork is in storage right now. All I can tell you is that I'm running UK 98 ron fuel which I think is the same as your US 93 stuff. Numbers for power/torque I cant say as my car was tuned on the road and not the dyno but it will be going on a dyno in the next couple of weeks so I'll post up the plot then.
I looked long and hard at the efficiency graphs of both the GTX28 and the 30 and also factored in things like IAT's and my future needs should I want to go with a built engine later (which I now know I will). All these factors led me to go with the GTX3071r, its great at my current relative low boost and will make an easy 450bhp when i get the opportunity to turn the boost up post engine build.
The GTX28 would be a tad more efficient at my current boost but by such a small margin that when you factor in the room to grow the GTX3071r gives it became a no brainer to go with the larger turbo.

So what is the GTX2867r good for on a built block?

I'm at around 300 now, but hope eventually to get towards 400+ if I build the block. I know I won't be needing more than 400 or a little more.

That's impossible to answer as there are many other factors such as tuner, exhaust, turbo kit, etc.

You'll definitely reach 400+ with the GTX28 though.

Regarding my post of good spool and top end I was being biased as to what would fit that best overall haha gtx28 or the 5858. The gtx3076 apparently sits in between maybe that's my answer. Thanks for the responses guys most appreciated!

I've tossed around what turbo I plan to run as well. It's all in what your goals are. Since I just bought a house, my turbo plans go to the wayside for a while, but I had essentially narrowed it down to either a GTX3076R or an EFR7163.
