Put the same wheels/tires on both cars. Then take it around the track. Then compare them. Otherwise this review based on track times means nothing to me.

I don't care what Motor Trend says, they are severely biased. They drive $100.000+ cars on a daily basis but when they get around to driving sub $50.000 car they get really bitchy about random things on the car.

Having owned European cars and seen where European cars are heading, I believe Europeans care more about lap times and speed than "enjoyment fun." I know this is only my opinion and it doesnt stand for everyone but from what I have seen so far this is true. Take the M3 for example. Stock for stock new models are faster but heavier than the out going model. Even Porsche my previously claimed "halo German car" which still is, has resorted to more and more electronics and the 991 GT3 wont even come in manual transmission anymore...

Personally of the three I would chose the e30 M3. I would love to have one over the BRZ but I wouldn't want to track what I consider a piece of art and potentially ruining it. If I had two that would be a different story

In addition, I am sure if the FRS has the same brand and model tires as the GTI it will run much faster. I am sure the Primacy HP arent doing it any justice and god forbid it has the bridgestones instead.

All this talk about the faster lap times in this video. All I got to say to these guys on the video is "I went faster than both of you! In my stock FR-S, at Streets of Willow. Womp womp!" ;P

(I'm Erick Sanabria BTW) lol

The lap times are not that impressive for those cars on the streets of willow considering Randy Probst was doing 1:31 on the FR-S and 1:30 on a BRZ. That's 6-7 seconds faster than what they posted. Put a more competent driver behind the wheel of all three cars the time differences between the cars would probably be much closer and we'd have a better idea how much faster (or not faster) the stock GTI is compared to the other 2.

I don't think that's going to happen, I think Motor Trend is actively trying to steer people away from the twins. I'm thinking maybe Volkswagen is paying them well. At first they were excited to drive the twins but now it seems that they are taking any opportunity to crap on the cars. MT should take their coat to the cleaners, it's getting dirty constantly turning inside out.

I would like the FRS! That being said.
This was the Golf Gti gen 6. The gen 7 is lighter and a bit more powerful, 220 or 230, the 230 version is about 1000€ more expensive but comes with a e-lsd in the front. Do not confuse this with the old by brakes system. This system can send up to 100% of the pwer to the outer wheel in corner exit. This gives a lot less understeer. The torque is up from 280 to 350 Nm on both versions.
Also in Europe, or at least Sweden the pricing is very close on these GT86 and the GTI.

A lot of preach for the GTI from me it seems, but I would definetly chose the GT86 myself.
If not... We have one kid and probably within 1-2 years yet another. This would mean fitting 2 reversed child seats and the Gt86 does not have particulay good rear leg room. Of course this is not the point of the FRS but for people like me where the car has to be a daily drive and at least be able to carry 2 child seats the FRS might sadly be to small.
Therefore I do understand people who cross shop these cars. Only for me what would drive me away from this car is the need for a bit more practical car.

Only the GTI do not even have a manual hand brake, a must in a winter nation like sweden for those unnecessary, but safe, low speed turns of the car in safe places, for example turning the car 90 degrees before entering you drive way.

(My self is hoping for that it takes a year extra to have the second child so that maybe it can fit one forward facing and one rearward facing childseat.)
