I wouldnt mind running up to Drift Office as well to check it out. Should we make a PDX meet day and run up as a group? Could be a blast as well as informative since most of us have jobs and are willing to drop 5k for more power.

@Drift-Office

If we can get a bunch of us together to come up and visit u guys can u give us the run down? I know quite a few of us are thinking about the Turbo/SC upgrades. We might even be able to get @Touge_ninja and the seattle crew to join us for the day.

Could be a expensive day for a lot of us!

Sorry, was out of the country for the last month, will be doing my best to have an interesting new update with the AVO kit before the LV Megameet.

Money aside, as you'll find out from others here - I usually have a few days a month with a few hours set aside for customers who want to have a Q&A session - regardless of their disposition. I don't usually advertise this fact but in this case, I wouldn't mind setting something up specifically for this kit. Saturdays are usually our busiest days though. Perhaps with advance notice, we could always setup a SUNDAY meet?

Paul @ AVO has been more than accommodating and helpful as we've been with them from ground zero on this project and he's been here to answer any and all questions that you all may have... And if you bring some ketchup chips, you might just entice him to let you take the AVO car out for a spin!

We've been pretty swamped here, so make sure you leave a message and we'll go from there!

Cheers!

Looks like I need to address a few things...

That's $6700 for the AVO Kit, AVO overpipe and AVO front pipe, complete with installation, ECUTek License and Stage 1.5 Calibration, making 240 - 250whp, AUTO TRANS @ 7 PSI.

Mr.Jay - We've got another Canadian 86 Tuning Day coming up soon, hit up Ben @ AJR or Johnny for the details...

I've been there with the AVO kit, and it is pretty amazing. Like I tell others, I don't think I've ever giggled (like a schoolgirl) before... That said, the stock clutch is the limitation here, probably partially due to a hard half season of Gymhakana Drift events where I was beating the AVO car on the track.

Still, 300whp on a stock fuel system? One has to ask yourself what size those stock port injectors are, and while 300WHP is attainable with stock fueling, what duty cycle do you think those run at on a 12.5:1 CR motor that's now running >8PSI of boost, SC or Turbo. Sure, I can get to 300WHP, but when the stock injectors fail from being taxed too much, who's fault does that become?

With the supercharger, pulley size will be finite.
Pound for pound of boost, TCs make more torque and power than a SC setup on the same motor. Why would I want / need to crank up the boost? With a properly sized turbo on a HC motor like the FA20, the AVO kit is probably one of the best "balanced" kits out there. There's no real necessity to crank it up. In fact, how many turbo kits offered out there run @ 5PSI? Most of them don't even come alive at those levels. The only real reason why boost is being cranked up now is to see who can get the glory numbers IMHO. It's the same reason why the Vortech kits used to come with a 5 PSI pulley and now comes with a newer, upgraded pulley that runs @ 8-9PSI if I'm not mistaken.

Now if you're looking for a number, and you're fixated on that number in your mind and not concerned with drivablity, power band or driving experience, then by all means, chase the dream. Like other posters have mentioned, that's a pretty dangerous (and expensive) game.

Oh wait. I thought you were describing AVO and the kit they were offering. Just kidding! Disclaimer : I'm just going to address a few point here that you made specifically, so please don't take it offensively - we're just talking here yeah?

By an "intrusion to your oil system" where you might feel that it is a longevity / reliability concern of your car, then perhaps you shouldn't even be considering aftermarket upgrades, much less FI since anything FI that you'll put on will be accelerating the wear and tear of the motor.

It's funny - I was noting how most of the Suby guys (WRX / STI) who've been in here before in the last 7 years have done nothing but complain about the rumble and want it gone / less pronounced. I assume that's the "beast" sound you speak of.

Interestingly enough, we've also noticed that the FRS / BRZ guys here want that rumble. Ah yes, the ironies of life! And thus, by going that route, one will be paying about 20% of an AVO kit for a UEL header, or add that 20% in cost to your overall SC kit but you're not bothered that you won't be getting an additional 20% of performance out of it?

I've addressed your stock fuel comment herein...

I'm with you 110% on this one. Then again, I've always been about discretion and I'm not the kind of guy to pop my hood at meets, much less at a car show - really. Yes, I have to do this at some events since my customers ask me to do so, but personally, I don't.

AVO, like APS and other Aussie MFG companies that build kits, do so to appear to be OEM-like. This is why it looks like it belongs in the car and I suppose if you wanted something obvious, then yeah, any of the SC offerings would suffice in that "show" department.

It really isn't going to matter how you achieve that HP, be it S/c or turbo. The turbo power comes in a bit faster which will change the factory balanced, fun, predictable feel.
Again, 110%. I LOVE the AVO car @ 275WHP / 230#TQ. It's a boatload of fun and very, very responsive in a 2700# application. In this world of FI, you really can't have the best of both worlds, but like the old addage goes, "All things equal, horsepower sells, torque wins races." Mind you though, I'm no pro race car driver, and I bet a bulk of my customers and those reading this aren't either. That being said, the AVO kit has both higher HP and TQ when comparing it to any of the SC offerings, again when doing a (pound for pound of boost) comparison.

Awww... I understand everyone has their own ideals and there is no product in the world that's a one size fits all. We're all free to make our own choices in life. Did I mention that I've got a FREE offer to tune the first guy who brings a Vortech kit to me (Ref : HERE - gotta pay for the license though!) I'd like a crack at it!

Cheers!

I should be able to arrange something within this month. Next month, I'll be out of town most of the month - either east coast or vegas. I may just leave the AVO car with Bob@drift.office while I'm on the East Coast (for the Wicked Big Meet) so people can look it over/take test drives.
