It's logic. I mean, any car on the planet earth can be "over-tired". The only question is how big or how wide before that occurs. If the car has 1000hp the negative consequences of over-tiring might be pretty entertaining to witness!

Thousands upon thousands of racer have already been down this totally logical and obvious road. "Let's put the big tires on, we'll go faster!" :big tires installed: "Why are our lap times slower?"

The transverse isn't accurate either, I won't get quicker by simply putting on skinnier tires. It's all about setup equilibrium.

I wonder what's faster in the Cayons? Mike? If grip and momentum dominate there over power, will the car be faster on the wider tires?

Just from reading other people's experiences, I think that unless you're going slicks or R compound, 225 is where it's at.

Possibly. The more WOT (power limited) time you have, the more benefit you get from skinny tires. The inverse is also true. The less WOT (grip limited) time you have, the more you benefit from wider tires.

All with diminishing returns.

Are we really going to datalog canyons now? I admit it, I've done it before...

The BRZ's excellent high beams help a lot here

I used to think so too, but I realized otherwise when I would start back up at the pace i was going before I took a break, only to get way loose on the first turn.

Local canyon road quality is roughly that of SoWS (complete crap for everyone not in SoCal), so the tires heat up quick (~6 turns and you're good IMO)

Granted, I've never canyoned on r-comps... only street tires.

Would love to hear what wheel width and camber settings you guys are running for these tests. A6's being slower than Nitto's raises all sorts of alarm bells....

So if I'm processing this thread correctly it seems that Nitto NT01s in 225 are pretty much the 'hot' track tire (barring sub 100UTG slicks).

Amirite?

On my previous track toy, an Audi Quattro with slightly more Hp, but heavier car and a bitch to set up for the track to get it to turn, I went from 225 Z1's to 225 NT1's, and couldn't possibly be any happier. Loved the Nittos. Z1's were trashed, while the Nittos kept on tacking...

I'm considering G-Force R1's. you can flip them left to right. I've heard some people have a hard time getting the pressure right, but I think once the pressure is right, they perform well.
