Not sure if it's just me, but it seems that staff turnover at Toyota dealerships seems to be quite high. Been randomly visiting dealerships in Gauteng and every few weeks there seems to be new staff.

My car is due for it's first service in April and I'm trying decide which dealership to use. The choices are:
1. Bruma 2. Bedfordview 3. Melrose Arch I bought my car from Melrose Arch and the sales service was pretty decent. |

Halfway Toyota were great, the salesman was a bit slow but I has given them a deadline and told them what colours I was interested in, they managed to get the car and all done in 3 days, I've has the car on Twice for some minor issues I've pick up and both times they have sorted me out rather quickly. The one thing I have found is the Toyota guys are not up to spec
On these cars, and the dealerships are guessing a lot of the time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Do they provide a shuttle service to and from work? Or a courtesy car?

No chance of getting a courtesy car but I think they all do provide a shuttle service.

Picked up my 86 today from Melrose Toyota.
It spent one and a half weeks there to get the gearbox mounting tightened and change of gear lever. The reason for delay was that toyota parts was on strike. I tried my best to get a courtesy car, called the principle dealer and threatened to cancel my deal and return the car. (Purchased this 2 weeks ago as a demo model from the Toyota CMH branch in Umhlanga) (No way in hell was I returning the 86, love it too much) Its practically impossible to get a courtesy car at Melrose. Given that..., for one and a half weeks, my service advisor arranged for me to picked from home, dropped at work(Sunninghill), taken to client meetings in and around the Sandton area, and dropped back at home everyday. Incredible service delivery from their side. They did the best with what little resources they had. (Remember this is toyota, Not Bmw) - Genuine Service Advisor (Delmain), kept me updated at all times. In terms of the actual work done on my vehicle - Substandard. I went in for the gear box mounting and my second gear was grinding,---> the mechanic incharge changed my gear lever, tightened my gear box mounting and changed my gear box oil. As I drove my car home today, (really enjoyed the traffic on the m1, got to spend time with the 86 missed it allot )....I noticed my gear knob fitting is loose, the clusters in the interior which they removed to change the gear lever was loose and did not click back in. Really disappointing.I spoke to the Mechanic before I left, and he looked very sincere, and he told me he tried his best. I guess it comes down to quality that's built through experience. And Melrose doesn't have the experience to perform quality work on the Toyota 86. That I assure you...through my experience. I would suggest Melrose for a last resort to do a service. But please don't do any other work on your vehicle there. This will save you time and disappointment. Cheers SM |

Geez no, that's just not good enough.
1)I've had the gear lever replaced at Barloworld while I've waited. Took just over an hour and everything was perfect, not a single trim piece loose. 2)Tightening the gear lever mount is a five minute job. 3)None of these would require your car to stand at the dealership for two weeks. 4)Barloworld told me that they don't give courtesy cars but if they've taken it apart and it's waiting for parts then they will rent you one. Melrose arch really does sound pathetic.

Been there as well with my Black Std (hottest colour by far good choice
) but to Kempton Park...The 2nd gear thing is a pain and a well documented one that gets better with age and you will notice slightly better shifts when turning corners and shifting simultaneously at gentle speeds. It gets better with age and you will get used to it - ColinW and myself have recorded the same issue. The gearknob is also an issue - get some Wynns thread sealer - it should sort it out. I've had the lever changed, the mirrors changed - they were loose and the left taillight (condensation). I booked my car for the 30k service with a week's notice and waited 3 weeks later to have the diff oil changed . Dealer change in order me thinks...Might try Killarney Toyota next - not too far from Melrose Arch So you have the black one running around Illovo? |

Thanks Vic, that second gear worried me, I was concerned that I may need to repair the gearbox at a later stage. Will take your advice. Thanks for the help.
Not in Illovo, I currently intimidate GTI's in the Sunninghill Area:-) . Furthest I commute to is Alice lane or Fredman drive in Sandton. So the Illovo 86 is still unknown... |

Imperial Toyota Nelspruit surprised the hell out me this afternoon.
Took my car in because of screeching noise from back brakes, found that the pads were finished (<17000km). Couldn't believe it but they had in stock and was out of there in an hour. Seriously well done. |
