Well said.

GT-R? That's too expensive and fat. I understand your opinion on what you consider fun. I'm not here to bash or argue an opinion.

I don't see a point of not upgrading tires if you can afford it. I'm sure something like Yokohama S. Drive can be had for cheap and will make the car much better on acceleration, turning and braking than stock All-Seasons you can get. Grippy doesn't have to be slicks or Bridgestone RE-01R.
The rear coming out with little effort doesn't really make a car sporty.

As someone who's had S-Drives, I can say unequivocally that they are a terrible choice for the AS1. Yes they are cheap and grippy, but the sidewall flex is awful. They caused a large decrease in steering feel and turn in response on my sloppy pig of a WRX. On a nimble responsive car they would be unbearable.

I've only read about 3 pages of comments but it seems like most of you are missing the point. Not only was there less grip but it was more fun and most importantly it was extremely easy for him to control. That's what he stated and raved about how easy it was to control it's oversteer with skinnier tires opposed to the bigger tires it first had

It might be that skinny tires are better in response than wider tires of the same or similar construction. But I'd still have something better than stock all-seasons on the car.

For the love of God, no. This is a 245/40/18 on an 18x8. Plenty of sidewall strength to keep the steering response crisp, even with the car's woefully slow steering ratio.

Don't stretch tires.

For a properly sized 225 for this car, you wouldn't want to go past 8" for a proper fit.

For 235/40s you want a 8.5" wheel, same with 245/40 IIRC for a proper fitment according to tire manufacturers.

I think you'll find that they are Prius tires, just not in America apparently. That said, they're also Mercedes Benz S-Class tires among other things.
I'm not sure if you're just trying to be argumentative here or what, but it's pretty obvious that most of the people complaining about "Prius" tires are assuming that they're wimpy non performing bricks with a very high tread wear rating. Perhaps tires even designed exclusively for the Prius.

I think it's pretty clear what myself and WhiteGDB are arguing here.

well pictures dont really mean anything. here you go: http://949racing.com/15x96ulgallery1.aspx

these are 225s on a 9" rim. just like what you showed is crisp enough, these arent stretched. tire manufacturers dont give you information based on what is the fastest combination either. they have all sorts of legal issues that take precedence over our fun

tell that to the miata guys cramming 225 hoosiers on 6.5" wide wheels.

and the WRX 17x8 is on 235s stock.

On my old car I had 18x8s with 225s or 215s on them and they were stretched (before it was cool) and looked like shit, on a manufacturer recommendation.

Back to the original topic...
The video content is retarded, of course a 480hp car oversteers predictably on ridiculously skinny tyres, anyone with an elementary understanding of physics could have told you that.
But for anyone to say that 4 inch wheels on 480hp is better than 6, 8 or even 10 inch wheels is just plain dumb. That car would be completely undrivable on a regular road, whats the fun part about that?
Futher more, drifting isn't about spinning your wheels faster than your car is moving, drifting is about controlling your car during a slide. Reducing the grip of your car to the point that anytime you turn the wheel your car slides isn't drifting, its idiocy.
More grip is always better.

Am I the only one who's glad this car has decently Narrow Stock wheels/tires?

The OEM wheels make perfect winters :P Anyone else care?..heh

And as for treadwear numbers, they are only referenced for THAT manufacturers Line-up, So a Michelin with a 200 treadwear will wear twice as fast as a michelin 400 rating, but comparing a 200 rated michelin to a 400 bridgestone for example, is meaningless to some extent. There's no standard for these numbers
