Performance being the keyword. Sorta.
Typical Prius tires are like 0.006xx rolling resistance and these are probably closer to 0.008. If you do a search for them along with Prius you'll notice that Prius drivers who install them find a tiny increase in fuel consumption.

ANYWAYS, I think these tires are "luxury performance touring". Probably chosen for a combination of comfort, reasonable grip, reasonable wear. People think that anything that can go on a Prius is automatically junk but come on, it's a freaking tire.

That said, the car still needs a set of 17x8s with 235 Hankook RS-3s, Kumho XS, Dunlop Star specs or something similar for weekend warrior duty. At least that's what mine will be getting. Or maybe 245s if I want to really over-tire it, i'm running 225 RS-3s on my 16x7 track wheels now
well treadwear doesnt really mean anything but i do agree that if we look objectively at the tires people would stop complaining. and if you were going any bigger that 225 you would probably want a 9 inch rim if you were willing to go with a tire that aggressive

I think you'll find that they are Prius tires, just not in America apparently. That said, they're also Mercedes Benz S-Class tires among other things.

I don't necessarily mean its own spares, but more like normal donuts OR maybe even Prius tires.

Just never mind... you killed my mood

Brilliant video. I'm blown away that Chris Harris actually "gets it". Hopefully this will trigger an anti-lap-time and pro-fun movement for street cars. Come to think of it, the FR-S/BRZ are headlining this movement [if we ignore the Miata has been doing it all along].

Thread title is misleading.

The car doesn't use Prius tires, it uses the same brand/model as the Prius. To be consistent and accurate for the car to have Prius tires they would need to be the same size...they aren't.

Why not build a car that sets good lap times AND is fun to drive?

Funny you mention the Miata in this thread as it does the exact opposite of what's being mentioned here. Miata guys are constantly trying to get the stickiest/widest rubber under the fenders. But I agree with your sentiment that the Miata has been the sole (soul?!?) model drawing relentlessly on the sports car formula at a bargain basement price. I occasionally miss mine

Personally, I love having lots of grip - be it on a race track or an emergency stop on the roadway, either way, take good care of your equipment and it'll take good care of you.

The more grip, the faster I can go and the more fun I have. More speed = More fun, in my opinion.

If that's the case, then Nissan made the GT-R just for you!!

The rest of us on the other hand want a car that involves the driver and the car, not one that involves the driver, countless computer systems, and then the car.

We want to be in control, even if that means we will be putting down lap times half as fast as the next guy in his PentiumProcessormobile, at least we will be doing with huge grins on our faces (and very possibly sideways).
