I think this whole Prius tire thing needs to be put to rest. Something was lost in translation and the automotive press just ran wild with it, like a lot of other things before early specs were released.

AGREED 100%. It's amazing that here we have a message board dedicated entirely to ONE CAR and yet every time I visit this site I see people spreading misinformation. How difficult is it for people to get the facts straight?

....Really? Maybe they gave it to increase the economical capabilities. People get stupid about fuel consumption and advertising the car has eco tires to get better fuel consumption will be a hit to some people. We aren't the only ones who will buy this car. There will be random old ladies driving these around too sooner or later.

The mercedes test is damn stupid. A car with almost 500hp and similar torque on tires the width of ones on a damn ninja 250...on a wet surface. NO SHIT the car will have excessive oversteer. Also means the car has shit for grip.

The FRS is more than capable of being fun on even wider tires. I wouldn't go more than a 235 in the rear though. But 235s on the back with suspension modifications....yeah, the car will be even more badass.

I think my spare tire is 195/ 50- 16
Please don't be mad but...put 355 or 125 on your car, ist doesn't matter - because you have FWD
Putting smaller tires on a FWD would not work because it will result in massive understeer and this isn't fun at all...

I am still going to go with some better tires on my AS1....All Season? No way. I live way south where it don't snow. I just need to find some good performance tires that are good in the rain.

Everyone acts like there is only one way to have fun. I, personally, HATE have low grip tires. Spinning the tires through all the gears and power sliding on every transition is not my idea of fun. I enjoy putting all the power of my car to the ground efficiently and cornering/transitioning without any sliding, especially on the street. I mean I can understand others enjoying it but there are a lot of people that just want a responsive/grippy car.

This looks way way fun. I cant wait to pump my FR-S tires to 50 psi and drift on the cheap.

I'll run 235s but I'm nit sure I'm a keyboard warrior lol

Toyota is the one who said the are the same exact tire as the Prius performance package. Having never cared enough to look at any Prius I've never confirmed but I'd hope and assume Toyota knows what tires they are using, more so than a poster here claiming the info is wrong.

Even if they were the same exact tire, that's not the point I'm trying to make. Because those are decent all season tires found standard on lots of other cars and are not the low resistance tires on all other Prius' that many here believe them to be. So continuing to call them Prius tires furthers that misconception.

seriously. The tires have a 240 treadwear. My neo-gens have 280, and all of your autocross/track non-r-comp tires are below 200. It's not like they put some 400 treadwear bricks on the car. These things will be plenty sticky for 90% of drivers and should do just fine.

That said, the car still needs a set of 17x8s with 235 Hankook RS-3s, Kumho XS, Dunlop Star specs or something similar for weekend warrior duty. At least that's what mine will be getting. Or maybe 245s if I want to really over-tire it, i'm running 225 RS-3s on my 16x7 track wheels now
