Yeah that is the name they gave it. I forgot that. Remember the retrofit work they did. Classic.
So less grip > more grid on the road for fun. Except when car exceeds grip and you end up in a ditch or wrapped around a telephone pole. I agree, for DD these Prius tires will be sufficient and fun. For any tracking or auto-X a more appropriate tire is needed. |

If i remember correctly Tada-san mentioned that turbo and high grip tires subtract from the real driving experience which means less fun. I love the fact that this car is ment to deliver the max amount of fun without the need of expensive high grip tires and other parts.
Speaking of top gear, anyone remember Jeremy Clarkson's Toybota? |

I don't understand why the stock tires are referred to as Prius tires. They're just Michelin all season tires that happen to also be stock tires on the Prius with performance package. Yes they aren't very sporty tires, but they also aren't the 15" low resistance tires on all other Prius'. Those I would refer to as Prius tires.
BTW, the Michelin pilot HX MXM4 also came stock on my Si. |

Ok, looking at press photos of both the 86 and BRZ. I can clearly see they have Michelin Primacy HP, which is a higher rated tire(grand touring summer) vs the Pilot HX MXM4(grand touring all season) that come standard on the Prius with performance package.
I think this whole Prius tire thing needs to be put to rest. Something was lost in translation and the automotive press just ran wild with it, like a lot of other things before early specs were released. |

Thanks for sharing the vid!
Loved it! I understand people wanting high performance summer tires for their cars. But why do people go extreme on the grip? 1. paying for high grip semi-slick tires on a road car 2. go to a track with the tires that the car was originally not made for and put a lot more wear on every component of the car. Making it wear out faster and having to put more money on it. 3. Doing the above and ending up having less fun. The only people I see doing this with "good" reason are: 1. people that sucks at driving and want to keep up with the faster guys without having the skill or the poweroutput. Thereby having more fun since they are able to be competetive or seem faster than they are. 2. People that have dedicated track-day-cars that have been modified to be up with that fastest in car classes that does not limit the cars to normal road tires. What is up with all the other people doing it?? I see more smiles on people playing with the limit of grip than people on sticky tires. I once was a passenger in a E30 325I on a small track. Toyo R888 on the front and crappy tires on the rear. That combo worked too, even tough it was kinda stupid. Was great fun playing and going sideways, without being in the way of the people that were going fast on the same track with normal tires. BTW, would love the see the face of a salesman if I asked, "Could i get my GT86 with four spare tires fitted".. ![]() Worst thing about all this, now I would really like to try this for myself!

So fun = skinnier tires = lose grip easier = longer braking distance = more susceptible to accidents. Sacrificing a bit of safety for a bit of fun is an unorthodox engineering move by Toyota but willed by Akio. Nothing too bold and I'm not complaining; just an observation.
