Sorry to hear about this. Its amazing how confused we get as human beings as get get older. I hope to be dead well before I become a traffic menace like this. We all have stories about that "crazy old man."

My damage was not at the rear of the vehicle so I dont know how they will apporach it, but I know that for mine I had damage to the fenders, hood, bumper, doors, and engine bay. As for what they did, they replaced every single part with OEM parts. I told them specifically that they will replace every item damaged with an OEM part. My car was 4 mths old when I wrecked. As for the claim I am in the process of doing that right now, since the wreck is not your fault you can file a claim to get back lost value in the car due to its dimished resale value. To do this contact the insurance agent handling your claim and ask for the documents they need for it. I'd also suggest the dealer recommended body shop, I went through the insurance company and that resulted in a very disappointing repair.

Your car should come back looking almost brand new, the body work on mine was pretty dang good(minus the paint job) there are areas on my car that arnt perfect but only a FRS/BRZ owner would notice.

I had a guy do that to my '08 Accord on the highway 2 years ago. I got out and tried to get all his info but he insisted we get off the highway first. This was in heavy stop and go rush hour on a Friday at 5 PM. Got back into my car and guess what, the dumbass bolted. Guess he didnt think I'd remember his license plate without obviously writing it down. Guess the cops had no problem recognizing his smashed front bumper with my car's paint on it. No doubt he was rewarded for his good citizenship.

Either way, glad you're alright dude and sorry about the car. Even if you are a Lakers fan
Same for drivers under age 25 as their judgement levels are not fully mature. That's why rental car companies don't like to rent to them.

While I was sitting in my car on the left shoulder waiting for police he somehow pulled into traffic from behind me and cut over, most likely to the nearest off ramp.

Ban all non car enthusiasts off the road. If you can't tell the difference between the brake and accelerator you have no business driving. I realize you can't literally ban people from the road who look at a car as transportation only. My paternal grandfather drove clear into his 80's all the way to 92 without a problem. He loved his cadillac.

Yep 65-70, you should have to complete drivers ED again.
Same reflexes as someone that has been drinking I would guess.
