It's best to identify an actual weakness and show how you are actively taking steps to strengthen yourself in that area.

I.e. Say I am not always the best public speaker. I describe how I'm taking more active roles that allow me to give presenations, run meetings etc. to overcome that weakness.

The same guy will probably, he usually does, come in tomorrow all high fives and "TGIF Buddy!"

It is funny to me that his belief that Fridays are better than other days, make them better for him, and for the rest of us in the office. Even though Friday can be as bad or as good as any other day.

Being positive can affect others. Just as being negative can affect others. But from an outsiders perspective, both are just points of view. I guess I am trying to say we are at choice on a daily basis on how we affect others. Good or bad. Its your choice.
IMHO if you had posted the second quote first it would be ok to post here in random post. So your colleague has this bi-polar attitude that affects others feeling. That is ok for you to rant here and fell good about it. The problem arises when you raise it to an abstract level that ties with beliefs and reality and that would be opening a can of worm, and hence the comments.

I would just one thing, you should be the master of yourself so others mood should not affect your mood. Peace.

Just add one more thing: knowing your weakness also shows you understand yourself well, like what you can and cannot do well in certain things. If you do not know your weakness and claim to have no weakness, they may persceive you as an arragant type of person.

Edit:I hadn't read the other replies when I wrote this, but meh, it just reinforces the others.

Honesty. As I understand it they're asking to see if you're ego is too big to fit in the office or if you're capable of recognizing a deficient in yourself. They probably don't care what your strengths and weakness are.

I SUCK at public speaking, I either freeze or speed talk and shake like a leaf. As ridiculous as is sounds I started getting over it by reading to my kids. Now I'm working on doing oral presentations on the systems I'm learning at work as a means of showing my bosses that I have learned the systems sufficiently to earn the sign offs in the on the job training package. I'm about 40% done that.

As for strengths, I can normally troubleshoot anything. I'd elaborate, but it would just be showing off.

The last interview that I did I was asked "do you get mad?" Of course I answered yes. Next up, "What makes you mad?" Then the same two questions for angry, frustrated, upset and what makes me loose my patience. That tried my patience. I still don't understand the point of all that.

The most nerve wracking part of that interview was when I was asked about the two times I've been charged, once for disobeying a lawful order the other for neglect causing lose of public property or funds. Again, honesty and the ability for self refection were enough to pass the interview.

My wife, a teacher, went to an interview where she was asked 'why are manhole covers round?' We ended being good friends with the principal after she was hired and I asked the point of the question. He said he's never once gotten the right answer, but the point of the question is to see if the person can think on their feet.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Just that it's kinda funny that they make you tell your weakness.

& it was sarcasm statement when I said I don't have any weakness lol

That's the thing, a lot of my friend their weakness is speaking in front of everyone/public... but I'm not. I've done several on em, so that's a least of my worry and I usually used speaking in front of everyone/public been my strength lol

Maybe I'm trying to figure out other weakness, so I don't have to say my actual weakness (writing). Cuz this job I'm applying for require a ton of writing and public service, so if I say my weakness is writing, they deduct me few point for that...

So just a random thought:

Got sitting inside a Mustang today. The mrs and I are wondering why the car so big but with so little interior space. The seats were pretty tight, though.

But again, I was sitting one with suspension upgrade and another Boss 302. Maybe that is not a fair comparison.

Re: Weakness

"Being a recent college graduate i've found that my biggest weakness is my lack of field related expeince. Even though I've had two very successful co-op terms, I understand that it doesn't equate to years of experience. Although saying that, I consider myself to be a very fast learner who can make up for that difference in a short amount of time."

my go to, can now be yours.

ie. lack of experience is a weakness that everyone has,
but not a fatal one that they won't hire you over if worded correctly.

g'luck man.
