Now you're on the right track, girl.

Buying that new FRS right now would be wonderful, but it would be imprudent at best, right now, and disastrous at worst, especially if it leads to derailing the big goal of obtaining a college education with all that can give you.

You're a number of years behind your peers. It's time to catch up.

Do not allow a car, however wonderful, interfere with the far greater GOAL of elevating yourself out of a life of want and need, a life of grinding poverty and misery. Do you want to spend the rest of your life with little more than what you have now?



What if you were unable to live with your mom? That day may come sooner than you think; hopefully not, but… At my age, I'm painfully aware of these realities. Everyone keeps dying around me.

Get that college education, that degree, that will afford you passage through a door to a better life. It's a ticket, a key to the door…

Stay focused. Effort gets results.

You have made some good decisions lately, difficult decisions. I'm so impressed with you. You listened.

I know … it cannot have been easy for you.

Because no one thinks I can. Except for mom, but I don't think that counts.

You have impressed me time and again. And I'll say this again, too: I'd be proud to call you my daughter, Ashley.

I BELIEVE in you; I believe you WILL make it.

You show a maturity, good judgment, and a willingness to apply REASON to your decisions and choices that belie your age. And it is all the more remarkable, burdened as you are with such a shaky self-concept.

There is strength in you. Look at what you've accomplished so far. Look at the tough schedule you've adhered to so far, and how much you've saved from your pitiful paychecks. You have strength and purpose, Ashley! Not many would have done what you've done. Do you know anyone in the same or similar circumstances who has?

No. Your peers have squandered their opportunities. Their lives are not over, but you have shown the good sense to assess them, where they now are, and you've determined not to make the same mistakes. You've determined, wisely, not to find yourself in their predicament following YOUR graduation. You're SMART, Ashley. And you listened to an old man on the internet…

You applied your reasoning powers to the problems, worked it out for yourself, and YOU concluded what would be your best course. YOU did it. Others may have encouraged you to look at certain issues, but YOU made the tough decisions.

Do you see many people around you who've done the same? No? Why not, do you suppose? You're convinced they're ever so much smarter than you. So how are we to account for this apparent discrepancy?

Since they're not dumb, maybe YOU are SMARTER than you give yourself credit for? What do you think?

I know what I think. One thing is clear: Ashley is NOT dumb… You've got your act together where others don't. You face tough decisions … and make the right ones.

Through the years you've maintained a good sense of humor, developed meaningful values, values that guide you in your conduct towards others, and you have, as my wife would say, a "warm heart." You're a good person, Ashley, generous and giving.

You reveal good insight into life and people.

And soon, you're going to be a college graduate, with a marketable degree, and a future. Use the rational side of yourself, your good judgment, to make the right choices to achieve your goal.

You can make it happen.

You must, because no one can do it for you.

"All" you need to do is keep on doing what you've been doing: pursuing your goal with dedication, determination, and the most remarkable self-discipline I've been privileged to witness in a young person in a long time.

Ashley has what it takes.

Now, just do it.

Wow @Porsche that is seriously one of the nicest things anyone has ever told me.
