Here are a couple pictures from the back of the BRZ at the Detroit Auto Show. I was there on Press Day and was able to get in the car.
I'm 5'9" on a good day and, while the driving position was very good and the shifter was phenomenal (similar direct feel of an Aisin transmission as Miata / RX-8 / S2000), I was disappointed in the lack of rear seat room. I wasn't expecting a whole lot, but I was spoiled by the RX-8 I used to have, which had a very usable and comfortable rear seat - for a sports coupe. I set the driver's seat where I would drive. Admittedly, I always set my seats in their LOWEST vertical position. When I got in the rear seat behind myself, I had to wedge my feed down between the f/r seats and then wedge them under the front seat. I got back there, but it wasn't pretty. The front seat can go back as far as touching the rear seat. I'm sure I could've pulled the seat forward and upward a bit to make more room in that rare instance when I need to put someone in the back. It'll do.

It seems that this system is *not* used. If that is the case, it is very difficult for people to get into the rear seats... However, thanks for trying to show this.

Thanks for the pictures.
Is it me, or does the stitching in those seats look awful? |

The red stitching seems fine and the black stitching looks to be getting a reflection from the lights. It's probably fine.

As for carrying people in back, do we really want to add that much weight to such a light car?! It's best to carry one person at a time, and get them to the destination as quickly as possible, then return for each additional person individually. If there's noticeably less tread left on the tires when you're done, then you know that you've done a good job

I would be surprised if Toyota/Subaru do not employ such a system in FR-S/BRZ. Since this car is dubbed as 2+2, there could be situations where carrying 4 people is required. So for folks < 6' this is a possibility. I understand for some people that it is better to treat this car as a 2 seater, but other people have their requirements as well.
