Crazy idea... the Rear Seat info ?

The one thing I'm concerned about is a rear facing car seat. I've read that front-facing car seats will fit without a problem, but I think I'm going to need a rear-facing within the next couple of years, and without it fitting there may be problems.

Sure Toyota will SAY you can fit 4 adults in the 86, just like Hyundai said you could fit four adults comfortable in the back of the GenCoupe. I fit 4 of my buddies (all males*) in the back of a gencoupe. For no more than a couple miles though. I found it hilarious as I was driving. Somewhat carefully.


*For clarification that they are at least around average sized adults, not anything suspect.

He looks 5'6" maybe 5'7" optimistically speaking. Anyone over 6'2" won't be happy in the driver's seat.

Yes you need to worry about rear facing baby seat. The best location to fit the rear facing coarser is the middle position of the rear seat of a *4 door sedan* or any of the large mini van or SUV. In a small car like 86, this could post a challenge.

However, I think you can still do it if you move the front passenger seat to the front and you should have enough space. But the to carry another adult/child is somewhat limited.

All in all, this is all based on if they install the LATCH system at the back seat. If not, things get complicated.

I have an RSX-S and think that the rears will be about the same as my car.

i.e. you can fit forward facing child seats, kids will fit fine, but anybody over 5'6 probably doesn't want to be in there for more than 30 minutes

You must be smoking. When I push my seats all the way back there is still leg room in my RSX for rear passengers. You need to look at the inside pics of the FRS.

I'm not sure about other states, but in NJ it's legal to ride in any seat behind the front seats without a seatbelt (if you're 18 yo+). Aside from a lousy rear ceiling height, maybe one person can sit "more" comfortably with extra legroom?

I would never ride in a car without a seatbelt. Don't care if you are in a huge Hummer. Just not worth the risk in event of an accident. I have seen so many accidents with un-restrained drivers/passengers. Just not worth it. Not to mention the 75% mortality rate for those ejected from a car in a accident.

No reason to not ride with a seat belt, regardless of where you're sitting in this car.

I know it's not what some people on here want to hear, since they want the car to be "practical", but I wouldn't expect the back seat of the AS1 to be good for much more than throwing groceries back there, or someone sitting there for a trip a couple of blocks away.

I agree. Cross country trip with adults in back seat is unreasonable. But picking up a few friends for a movie or going out to eat should be fine (esp if female/smaller people sit in back). Back seat is not for comfort but should still be somewhat useable.
