Car has switched from Hankook RS3 tire to Dunlop Direzza ZIIs. This was my first event on them and Deland is never good for testing changes, way too dirty and slick.

Deland was more slick than ever today. So dirty that there were huge dust clouds in 4th heat still, even after the rain in heat 3. With learning the new tires and the lack of grip, I drifted all day. Kept lowering rear pressure until I had a semblance of traction on throttle. I knew the car had a 46.x in it but I only managed 47.9 clean and 47.1+1 times. Time was enough for first versus an E36 M3 with a few *questionable* modifications but his times were the only ones in CS close to mine and I wanted a battle so I let it ride.

Can't wait for Brooksville to really test the tires.

Obviously sounds like this wasn't a fair comparison, but what was your opinion about the audible feedback between the hankook and the ZII? I am so used to Hoosiers I feel like my best transition tire back to 200tw will be one that has similar audible feedback, which from others opinions, sounds like the Hankooks are the best place to start. with that said, if hankook is really phasing out the RS-3, I don't want to start setting up the car for them if they aren't available long term.

That was my experience at Nationals also - even on a clean lot the ZII rotates a lot more than the RS-3. You can't really run the same setup with both tires.

This lot is so incredibly dusty and slick, there is little tire noise from any tires unless you're too far gone to save. With that being my only time I've had on these, I can't speak for their feedback. And Hankook is showing every sign of phasing the R-S3 out so switching to it now isn't the best idea. I loved them but I need need stiffer sidewall with the lack of camber we have.

I'm running the same shock settings but I had to stagger 8 psi difference F to R to drive this (38/30), and could have done more. But everyone in CFRegion knows that you don't make setup changes based on any data from Deland. It's more slick than good some sites in the rain.

Fair enough, based on your comments I assumed there wouldn't be much useful feedback. We have a similar lot here, heck of a lot of fun but useless to learn anything substantial on. When's your next event on a worthwhile surface?

This weekend. CFRegion's best concrete venue, Brooksville, on Sunday. Can't wait.

Nice, thanks for reminding me how much northern winter sucks! If you think about it, still interested in your feedback after this event!

Ugh. Agreed.

On a better lot I'm sure the traction will improve but relative to the RS-3 I'd expect the same oversteer tendency you observed this time. It really was night-and-day even on Lincoln's concrete.

I know Z2s are a bit peakier and will tend to slide but tire pressure can help with that.

Yep, and the ZII's were definitely faster. I actually think the car itself responded well to the added slip. My goal this year is to make the RS-3's behave the way the ZII's do in terms of US/OS balance (because I still have RS-3's on my wheels with life left). I forget our pressures with the ZII's but we did have lower rear pressures than front. It wasn't as much as you needed on the slippery lot though.

I believe the goal will be 38/32 on decent surface.

I ran 215 RS3s for 1.5 years, found the best performance at 35psi all around on an ideal day/surface.

We can also try pulling rebound out of the front depending what the car is doing on corner entry vs exit. I think the car will be pretty spot on at Brooksville.

After seeing how smoking fast the car/driver combo was at Tavares
I'm going to run the RS3s on the s2k a few more times and see if they come back to life as it warms up, if not I'm probably going to a Z2, or the rumored RS4 in the spring.

Or I will keep flogging Henry's car until he drags me out of the drivers seat.
