Some scenarios that I've run into myself or witnessed:

a) handbreak fade, or not pulled hard enough, I've found my civic in the middle of the driveway once from having rolled (about 4ft). happens. In this case leaving it in would've helped.

b) being towed away in the typical case - rear wheels on road - if left in gear, won't that severly damage the car?

c) street parking in tight spots - better to have it in a loose gear in a flat area -2nd or 3rd - so that when someone bumps into you the car allows for some movement vs more bumper damage if the handbrake is on.

How do you guys handle these cases - b and c..

b) pretty sure they just flat bed/dolley/take out of gear themselves ..

c) damage has been done one way or another - i wouldn't say much more or less considering its probably a bumper rash which even with no brakes/gear would damage your car equally.

I find it's a no-brainer. I leave my car in gear each and every time I turn it off. Whether or not I also use the e-brake depends on the terrain where I park the car.

Ok im gonna throw this out here (since it seems fitting and all).

Does this apply if you had a remote starter? AFAIK you cant really remote start the engine in gear unless you want it to stall right away, thus the need to keep the car in neutral for a remote start?

Remote starter? Are you talking about the keyless system or an after-market remote engine start system?

after market remote start for not having to be inside the car to start it.

Any current remote start system will refuse to start if the MT is in gear so you have to park in neutral.
