But you'll pay for it, I also see that shooting brake will be more of an joint venture with BMW as well. Because from what I gather(ichi and some others will know about this) it's been too quiet on the Subaru's side well see what the future holds but I'm not so sure on the Subaru in a big picture at this point. Meaning in short I dont' see anything from Subaru other than the Coupe unless something Drastic happens. *whistles*
The BMW/Toyota deal is strictly for a high performance car. Don't confuse that with the possible family idea. If it becomes a family they will all likely share components and the heavier sedans and hatchbacks will be slower.

There have been rumors that Subaru was investigating releasing more RWD cars back in 2010. Although that was on NASIOC so it could mean nothing or it could mean something. Subaru is very strict about what information is released and when. They will likely stick to the premium pricing system though. I hope Subaru signs on for more models though. The premium strategy is working for them. BRZ fly off the lots down south. On the other hand, the allotment being based on WRX sales was a really bad idea.

All this time german engineering has been on top followed by Japanese engineering. Now for these two to come together? Thats crazy.

Yes please with the hatch (shooting brake) version. That would be close to my perfect car.

I've never heard of the term "shooting brake" until I read this thread. Why sugar-coat, call it a hatch/wagon.

Yeah I don't think we North Americans will ever refer to a hatch as a shooting brake. Sounds like a kinky sex position. The Brits can keep it along with boot, bonnet and shagging.

great interview.

since everyone is just speculating ...

here's my wild-ass prediction. Toyota and BMW are collaborating to try and build a premium sports car... it will compete with the Cayman and Evora. And the coming Alfa 4C. So it will be mid-engine, hybrid perhaps with an inline-6 making about 300hp total. Priced to compete against these premium brands at around $50-60K. And it shall be called... MR2.

at least that's my dream. I probably won't buy another Toyota until that happens.

I think the new sports car will be a higher class than current toyobaru... it should have a performance like the upcoming BMW i8.... as the powertrain.... and maybe Toyota as the designer of the agility and fun-to-drive chassis... who knows.. but i do love the ptshopped targas and shootbrakes...
