I hope it doesn't become like the MINI family of cars. Ever.

I'm all for a big family of FT86-based cars.
Coupe (which we already have) 3-door hatch 4-door sedan 5-door hatch And (tum-tum-tum): A 2-seater, on the same wheelbase as FR-S/BRZ but with engine/firewall/windshield/front-seaters moved aft about 2 ft. for 50/50 or better weight distribution. Add funky styling: instant modern 2000GT! |

There is one issue with all of this happening and thats will America get them? Since Scion is mono spec, unless they bring them and keep changing the names and other things. It's kinda doesn't work with their brand, unless they one, come out as Subaru or come up with a whole new division like mini is to BMW or actually release them as Toyota, change Scion. Or just get rid of Scion.

I'd say making a family of cars based on the 86 might seem overly optimistic. However, it could spawn some very interesting variants.
Never heard the term shooting brake before, though it seems like it's another Brit word for 5 door wagon.

As far as Scion is concerned, their sales numbers suggest they need to completely change their current offerings for the brand to survive. It would be awesome if Scion consisted solely of an 86 family of cars like the Prius sub-brand.
I could see the 86 coupe and convertible, an 86 based 3 and 5 door hatch/shooting brake (Golf/GTI competitor) and a sedan on a longer wheel base (Si competitor). Scion needs to steal market share from the Miata, and the performance hatch market. Those markets are ripe for change as Americans switch to smaller and smaller cars and people continue to want small affordable fun cars. The Miata is unchallenged and the GTI is front wheel drive. Scion could take over those markets with superior products. I personally would buy the hatchback over all other cars if its ever offered.

Shooting Brake is a fancy (and stupid) marketing term resurrected from the dead by German automakers who wanted to introduce a wagon to America without the lameness of the ''Wagon'' label. Its interchangeable with a 3 door hatch, and if your really snoody, a 5 door hatch or wagon. Closest offering to a true shooting brake is the Volvo C30. I dislike the term, almost as much as I dislike ''4 door coupe''

Well I'm not gonna argue that a shooting brake design is not as functional as a normal regular hatch, but still that extra space can do wonders.
