A majority of Americans want vehicles closer to the 4,000 lbs mark than 2,000, and the #1 motorsport here is NASCAR... what kind of message do you think that sends to manufacturers?

Cars in the US are generally cheaper. Toyota and Subaru have to price it competively in the states. If they can't do that, then there's no point in bringing it over. They will lose money and no business would be willing to do that.

It's the main reason why the Scion is coming over as a low-spec version because not a lot of people will pay 28k+ for this type of car. It's the reason why Honda does'nt bring the Type-R versions of their cars (with th exception of the Acura Integra Type-R). It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Toyota and Subaru do the same.

my sides hurt after this comment....How did you get so smart

I do understand the whole price point issue, but they could consider offering these types of versions in limited production and at a premium, so the people who are willing to pay have an opportunity to get one.

Rant over... Stand down the drone attack.

I believe it is expensive for a company to bring a car like this over to USDM due to cost of getting it certified for emissions and crash safety. I have not clue on the actual costs, but for a special version of a limited production niche car it might not be feasible. Partly the reason Subaru still has not brought over their diesel boxer engines.

Ok, I agree with most of the responses to my original post, but this point makes no sense, since the BRZ appears to be coming in a Hi Spec version (limited).
Subaru would not do that from a business perspective unless they thought they could move some inventory.

Scion is potentially not offering Hi-spec because of their target market, not because people are not willing to pay. Maybe they will change their image and deliver both low and Hi spec. - jury is still out at this point.

Hum this might not be entirely accurate

from the press release:

Quote:
【Motor Sport information】
・Other displayed racing cars: Legacy B4 GT300 (participated in the 2011 Super GT race); BRZ GT300 (scheduled participation in the 2012 Super GT race); Impreza WRX STI (scheduled participation in the 2012 24 Hours Nürburgring endurance race); and Impreza WRX STI Group R4 specification model.
・Subaru will announce its entries of the Super GT races, Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) and 24 Hours Nürburgring endurance race in 2012.
http://www.autoblog.com/2011/12/27/s...y-return-at-t/

It's the Impreza WRX STI that is scheduled to participate in the 2012 24 Hours Nürburgring endurance race not the BRZ GT300.
It's not clear in the release which car would take part in the IRC but I would expect it to be an Impreza not a BRZ.

Oddly enough, the Scion tC wheel looks EXACTLY like that, just sans Alacantara, and different button placement.
