A 2.2L engine that revs to 8k in an STi version. I would buy instantly.

*cough* F22C.

With a 8300 redline, and 4.57 FD, gearing would be almost identical to stock...

Sissies. Take some HP out of the FA20 and Challenge yourself to run the same lap times. That's what I call fun.

That's what I'm talkin bout!!! It's an absolute blast creeping on higher powered cars in the under powered 86. It teaches you to be precise and smooth it's always easy to add power but skill is harder to come by.

Awesome video! Tell me more about your GoPro setup. Are you using a wired external mic connected directly to the camera? If so, how did you route it into the engine bay?

Thanks! Yes, wired external mic connected directly to camera. The line is then routed through the passenger door and down through the hood. The mic is clipped next to the ground line next to the battery. Easy on, easy off. Nothing special.

Gotcha. I'm in the market for a GoPro Hero3 White plus side mount for my helmet, suction cup mount, tow hook mount, and an external mic. Who's tow hook mount are you using? Any recommendations on where to score the AiM Solo DL for a good price? Best I can find is $399. Any accessories needed to hook it up to the OBD2 port or is it capable out of the box?

I'm actually using the factory towhook, and then a u-bolt clamp adapter to connect a Ram-mount and gopro adapter to it. I was tired of paying $100+ for aftermarket tow hooks. I still don't understand why they cost so much.

AiM Solo DL is actually $700. The regular solo is $400. You need the DL if you want to datalog from your ECU. The Solo DL comes with the obd2 connector out of the box, so you don't need anything else other than a mount for the unit. I purchased mine for about $100 off through a group buy last year. I don't know of anyone that sells less than MSRP.

Damn. Just one GoPro plus mounts plus the data logging timer is over $1000 easy to make a cool video like that. That's before video editing software, external mic and wifi remote. I just can't justify the cost of all of that!

You can get by with much, much less. If you have an iphone, Harry's Lap timer does it all for you (data & video). You can always buy a 2nd hand ipod touch or use an ipad with it as well. Pair with a nice bluetooth GPS receiver and you've got a pretty cheap combination there.

Don't remind me how much I've spent!

Yeah, it's a tough pill to swallow, but I love making videos and I've learned a lot with the setup. Also, it's compatible with my other car as well, so I somehow justified it to myself.

HLT and other smartphone apps are definitely the cheaper way to go, but you'll never get the detail and versatility that the solo provides. I had HLT with external gps and kiwi wifi at one point, but discovered that the limitations were too much and ended up returning the whole setup before even getting a chance to use it at the track. I also used racechrono prior to that. The biggest problem is RELIABILITY. I've NEVER had a lost lap or session with solo. My buddy's HLT frizzes out all the time and so did my racechrono.
