I use 3rd and 4th primarily only downshifting to 2nd for turn #11 coming out of turn #5 I up shift to 4th and don't drop back to 3rd till 7a or the "corkscrew". I used to shift more but the instructor advised againt shifting unessarily. I'm able to carry quite a bit of speed into the corners by lightly using the brakes lightly just to shift the weight forward I also like to trail brake it a bit to start the slide into the corner. What pads are you running? My hawk hp+ held up fine even with a passenger although he is a skinny little fucker.

Ps stock tires suck I chunked the shit outta my fronts the first time out.
I'm using project mu club racer pads. They are awesome. I couldn't be happier with them. I'll bet you'll like them much better than the HP+ pads if you try them out. I've never heard good things about hawks, unfortunately....

In regards to shifting, I closely watched Pobst's video before my trackday and tried to mimic exactly what he did. What I didn't do:
1) turn 6: I would try staying in 4th, but I just didn't have enough speed to climb up the hill that way, so I shifted down to third and had better exit speeds. Lesson: I need to go faster through 6th so I can stay in 4th like pobst
2) exiting turn 9 Pobst would go into 4th gear just briefly and then back down to 3rd for turn 10. Again, my speeds weren't high enough to justify going into 4th as I would hit redline as soon as my braking point came up.

Tires will come in due time. I'm trying to resist as long as I can. If I go R comp, then my outer edges will wear big time and I'll need to increase camber. If I'm going to increase camber, then I might as well get camber plates. If I'm getting camber plates, I might as well get coilovers... It's a slippery slope I'm trying to hold off on.... for now...

Yup 2nd in turn 2 and turn 11 for me as well. Again, watch Pobst video. "down to 2nd, redline on exit" at turn 2.

Yeah I hear ya the fronts really take a beating with stock or close to stock camber. I was dropping back down to 3rd for turn #6 on my earlier sessions but my friend driving an AE86 pointed out that he was having better results going up to 4th so I figured if his blue top 4age could pull it there's no reason for me not to. I really think that we would benefit from a higher redline like say 8k or 8.2 there were I few sections I could see you were riding redline I found myself having the same problem on first time there also on stock rubbers. Tires will help immensely will allow you to carry much more speed and 4th won't be such a chore on the uphill

Oh yeah if you haven already considered it the trans mount and subframe bushings make the tranny feel that much more solid.

Good stuff, I'll be taking out the BRZ later this month with HC+800's. Hoping for similar results.

Yeah I pretty much just slide through turn #2 but I know I can/could be faster/cleaner though there. I gotta say I love underpowered cars something about being able to peg the skinny pedal though/out of corners is so much fun!!

Oh yes, I bounced off the rev limiter in third gear many times going into 6, 10 and 11. I even bounced a few times going into turn 2 in 4th.

It is Project Mu's hybrid pad. Club Racer is a full track pad.

@orthojoe
Nice to see a great lap at one of my favorite tracks, albeit I have only driven in sims, looking to run it live one day. Great driving, very clean but aggressive. Randy is a great measuring stick.

I would love to have a hotshoe run my local track (Calabogie Motorsports Park in Ottawa, Canada) so I can compare notes also. The best upgrade is the driver mod as they say.

I ran my track events last year with my stock tires also with upgraded pads and was very impressed at how well the tires did. This year I will be upgrading wheels & rubber and possibly suspension.

Refreshing to see a track thread with good info from competent and knowledgeable drivers.

I don't grab 4th on the exit of Reaney Curve either. Just bang the limiter for a sec before entering T10.

See we need an 8.2k redline it would make life so much easier.

Yup, that's what I ended up doing in the end. The only reason I considered it was because Pobst went into 4th there only to quickly go back down to 3 to enter turn 10.
