Thanks, that's looking great. Just a bit slow, but baby steps I guess.

Most welcome. It is looking great, been following it for a long time now. Only bought the RPi because the provisional release date was end of Feb 2013. Hopefully it will be out in the next few weeks. Best part is I can build and test before I install. Which saves alot of hassle.

I asked Toyota SA if they were ok with me using a ELM device in my car and they said no, they said they are scared of it resetting error codes and messing with the obd

Why did you even ask? It would not have been an issue otherwise and would only reset error codes if you told it to.
When it comes to these kinda things the answer would almost always be NO to stay on the "safe" side.

Dusty thread but I just got some track records in using Torque Track Recorder. I managed to get VLC to rotate the film and display the gauge info but I cant for the life of me save the smaller clips and get it to upload to youtube properly. I tried following the Torque wiki article on it and no dice. Best I can do is get the videos online with no gauges.
![]() [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DI-GsnoVez8"]Youtube[/ame] Anyone know how I can get the video clipped, rotated, online, and contain the gauges? WIP

good morning guys,
slizoth: Getting the videos "coded" with torque turns out to be a fiddly mission. the method of is weird. Most of the data is coded into a ".srt" file which is a subtitle basically. the best i could do was install the software that is recommended by the developer and hope that it works. i had tons of issues with coding the videos. On average for every ten videos I record I can code 5 with gauges, these days I keep it simple just cause the process is annoying. by simple I limit the amount of gauges, ie, rev, max power, 0-60 and 400m. Just a few so that when you running it on vlc the subtitle doesnt take up the whole screen. Its actually kinda sad that the track recorder coding method has so many flaws. Hopefully the developer irons out the issues or provides a method of coding the data after transferring it to PC. Raspberry PI: Lol! since getting my two PI's I donated them to my younger cuzzies. I was keen on doing the whole car pc set up but i see android radios are breaking into the market nicely. So now I'm just waiting for them to hit our shores. I know there's a few Chinese and some "OEM" ones out there, but not interested. I know Kenwood has released one with ICS it just a matter of time till everyone follows suit. Anywho, with any luck by the time they here my piggy bank will be ready to crack open. Cheers guys! |

Hi
Torque running perfectly on my Parrot Asteroid Smart, no need to wait for anything from China or anywhere else.

As lovely as the Asteriod is I'm really not a fan of not having buttons. Its a personal preference I guess. I did consider the Parrot but it being based on Gingerbread put me off as well. That being said waiting isnt too much of an issue with me, failing the arrival of new Android HU's by next year March I'll go back to considering a tablet build. Something Im also not keen on doing but I want a full android unit so I'll take the time and build a full audio set up then. Cheers |

I wasn't keen on not having buttons either but you do get used to it. Gingerbread is fine, the way they've customized pretty much everything is what sets it apart. My previous head unit was an Android 4 one..with buttons. I much prefer the Parrot one. Simple things such as 10min standby, etc makes a massive difference because the previous one rebooted when you started the car.
Either way, it's up to you and it depends on what you want from the unit.

I agree they have done a great job at customising it, probably the only reason why i would consider it. The other reason is that its a complete package, Bluetooth, phone, radio, etc. Things that would be very difficult to implement (if at all into a tablet build). Its a cleaner set up, easier to install amps and speakers without the need for an intermediate processor. Thus the audio build can staggered.
Lol! I've given it alot of thought hence why Im looking for a Parrot like HU. I guess for now since Im in no rush I'll keep on looking. Fingers crossed that the next 6 months shows a radical shift in this market. If it doesn't then I'll weigh out my needs before I choose between the tablet or Parrot. |

Yep, let's see what they come up with.
Pity our cars don't have steering controls.

I'm glad they don't. People keep on asking for more options and then when the car is fully kitted & bloated from the factory they cry about the market not having a back-to-basics offering
Don't want steering controls. Don't want a sunroof. Don't want huge trunk. Don't want better plastics Of course this is just my opinion. |

Thats very true. The one thing I was hoping to have. Not sure if it will work or how but I did read about some guys using Legacy Satellite controls with the standard HU.
I didn't pay too much interest cause means getting a whole new steering and it was for the Scion Pioneer HU in America. I quiet like the steering we have and don't like the standard units. |
